Some important resources for hypnotists and other care providers who are interested in gender variant competency in their practices:

Center of Excellence for Transgender Health - Transgender Health Learning Center

This page contains links to reports, protocols, fact sheets, etc. Trans Cultural Concepts is a good one.

ALGBTIC Competencies for Counseling Transgender Clients

This is an incredibly useful and versatile document, which has now been endorsed by the American Counseling Association. (It was developed by ALGBTIC, a sub-group of ACA).

LGBQ counseling competencies can be found here.

Transgender Law Center Health Care Fact Sheets.  See Ten Tips for Working with Transgender Individuals - A Guide for Health Care Providers.

There are other good documents at TLC as well.

Thank you, Amy. The Ten Tips are very useful, especially the advice to refrain from asking about specific genital status, not something most people would automatically think about following.
You're welcome, Kelley! And thanks for joining the group. I think as hypnotists there's a lot we can do to assist trans and gender variant folks with a range of concerns - not just the ones that have direct relationship with "being" trans or GV.

This page includes many of the resources offered by the Transgender Law Center. There are many helpful resources for providers who work with (or who want to work with!) gender variant people. Go check it out!

From author Rachel Pepper's website, a description of her upcoming book: "Transitions of the Heart: Stories of Love, Struggle and Acceptance by Mothers of Transgender and Gender Variant Children. This amazing collection by mothers of both adults and children who are transgender and gender variant will be published by Cleis Press in spring 2012. More than 30 mothers from the US, Canada and the UK shared their stories with me, some for the very first time, in this ground-breaking anthology. I can't wait till this book is published, for I know it will change the hearts and minds of so many people, and lead to better  understanding and acceptance of transgender people and their families."

FYI - I am one of the mothers who wrote a piece for this book, "Kid Chrysalis," about my oldest child.
