I am waiting for my exam results and need to ask a question if that is ok. I am doing practice at the moment and I have done weight loss and gastric band on a friend who is  on HRT and anti-inflammatory's for arthritis....will this stop the hypnosis working as I haven't had any success with her. I look forward to hearing your replies. Thank you in advance. :-)

I'm not sure what effect HRT has on weight loss but I do know that hormonal imbalances can cause weight issues. For example the thyroid gland can cause weight gain if it isn't working properly. Check out hyperthyroidism on the web to find out about how hormones play a major role in weightloss.

Before working on weight loss with this person I would concentrate on stress management because stress can cause the arthritis to get worse and it also increases cravings for high carb / high sugar foods.there are lots of information on the web about weight loss and insulin resistance that may help you understand why we crave sugar and carbs when we are stressed.

When working with weight loss I would always work on stress and teach stress management techniques and normally do this in the first session

I am also interested in this because most of my weight management client are post menopausal or have had a hysterectomy.  All have shown little or not progress.  I know from personal experience that losing weight after a hysterectomy is difficult.   Hormones have a great affect on metabolism.  I am concerned with taking on a client who is dealing with hormonal issues and assuring them that they can reduce their weight.  I stress mindful eating, avoiding processed food, avoiding fried food and foods with empty calories.  I have had success with others but these cases seem not to budge.  I also teach self-hypnosis in the first or second session so they have a tool to deal with stress.
