I just came across a book today called "The Weight Hypnotherapy and You - Weight Reduction Program, and NLP and Hypnotherapy Practitioners manual by Judith E. Pearson, PHD and it has a great program broken down into 8 weeks, depending on where the client is at, and it also has some wonderful scripts to help guide the client in different catagories of weight release (journaling, making wise food choices, exercising, and so on). Hope this helps.

Hi Karen,

This is what I have been looking for. I have done 3 sessions on weight loss with 2 clients and have been battling to come up with a program to follow for the rest of the course.
Hi Grace,

I only saw the book for a few minutes but it looks like a really good tool to use and I believe it's around $40 on Amazon. I'm planning on buying it and my friend says she's uses it all the time. (in fact the pages were falling out from all the wear and tear). The book breaks it down into approx. 8 week segments but it is dependent on how well the client is doing and if they are motivated or hit a plateau.

I took the weekend course at HMI in Tarzana, CA given by Susie Kappas and it was great. They probably have it on streaming video if you live out of the area. I don't know how much it will cost. Hers was also broken down into 8 weeks.

Make sure they are journaling and what they are feeling when they do eat. If you go to www.choosehypnosis.com/scripts:htm they have several free scripts too. One is call the high Road to Success- Weight Reduction and is 5 pages long. Another is Weight Reduction Sessions 1, 2 & 3, plus other ones.

I recently got this I think from HypnoThoughts about metabolism. Have the client imagine they are on a swing and the perfect size weight. Start slowly swinging and the higher and higher they get have them visualize their metabolism adjusting safely to the appropriate level and it continues to adjust until the perfect desired weight. Your subconscious knows what your metabolism needs to be to meet your weight goals. Control rooms are great for all kinds of issues including weight reduction/releasing (remember to not say "loss" because the subcon. mind will help you find whatever you lose). Have the client imagine dialing down their cravings for sugar and carbs and then set it at the right number. They are in control (in the control room and in everyday life). They can also dial down their "fat thermostat." When giving some of the positive suggestions say, "We know you will try to doubt htis, but that's ok because the harder you try to doubt it, the more it affects you profoundly."

Are you having them drink water before a meal and leaving some of the food on the plate? What is their motivation for reducing...keep that reved up! Are they using a vision board/ pictures on the refrig?

Well, I hope some of this helps you. Much success!

Hi Grace

What have you done in the first 3 sessions?

you can use some of the tips and techniques bellow to help you come up with a strategy to use with the clients.

these are only techniques and tips so you will have to work out what strategy you are going to use to help the client. for example do they need to exercise more, cut down on certain foods, stop bad eating habits, work on emotional eating or some thing else.

once you now the goal for each of the sessions you can work towards that but obviously you have to be flexible in case something else comes up that needs working with.

you may want to do a search for stanley schachter for research on the internet.

Drink lots of water it has no calories and your body needs to burn calories to digest it so it is a negative calories food.

Try drinking a glass of water when you think you are hungry in case its thirst

Put knife and fork down between bites.

Chew food for longer

Be realistic about the amount of time it takes to get to your ideal weight, loosing 1-2 pounds per week.

Keep an eating and exercise diary and write down how they know its time to eat? what emotions you were feeling when you decided to eat something?

Grill instead of fry.

1. Eat whenever hungry.
2. Eat whatever you are hungry for.
3. Eat very, very slowly and consciously.
4. Stop eating when not hungry anymore.

Cal banyans secret language of feelings is a good book to read for weight loss it works on an emotional level.

you can also use a contrastive analysis or a swish technique to help the client change their feelings about foods they don't like but are good for them and foods they do like but are bad for them.

you may also want to use some suggestions about getting a good nights sleep because this has been shown to help in weight loss clients.

maybe you could use a parts integration or a six step re-frame if there are conflicts that need resolving.

you can also use well-formed out comes and smart goals so that you have an out come to aim for in the sessions.

you could also use a solution focused approach for example you can ask the questions bellow and build this into a future pace.

Suppose one night, while you are asleep, a miracle happened and fixed this problem. Only you are asleep, so you don't know it happened. What would be different? How would you know a miracle happened?

What would you notice differently about your self if a miracle happened?

What will others (mum, dad, brothers sisters) notice about you that is different?

What difference will it make to your life when a miracle happens?

What will you be able to do after the miracle has happened that you could not do before?

What would be the very first sign that the miracle had happened

What could be the smallest thing that could change that you will notice?
Grace, do you know NLP? Tom gave some really great suggestions. Parts Integration is wonderful for healing and stopping the sabotage. The swish is great for changing foods that are troublesome to ones that you no longer desire. I did it with my love of bacon and it worked!

You can also use imagery of a room where there is a small child and the client establishes rapport and embraces the child with a big hug. After a lovely period of play time the client gives a final hug and tells the child that they are loved, safe, (never alone anymore) and they will always be there for the child. (It's about self-love).

Tom, thanks for such great ideas and the book suggestion from Cal Banyan. I'll check that one out.
Much success to you both~

Karen.....I just received the book today and plan get into it this weekend. In browsing through it, it looks like it will be well worth reading. Thank you again for the suggestion.

Hey Bill!

Thanks for letting me know that you got the book. I think it will really be helpful. Let me know what you think once you've gone thru it. I can't wait to get my hands on it. Did you pay about $40 for it? Aren't you an HMI grad too? If so, when did you graduate?

Well, hope everyone has a magical, relaxing weekend! It's been rainy all week in the LA area.

Hi Karen,

I looked at Judith's book on Amazon. My question, I am NOT NLP certified and thus far my work has not incorporated NLP (although that is in my future radar). If I purchase the book do I need to know NLP already?

Thanks,
Gail
Hi Gail!

I only saw the book for a few minutes. I'm planning on buying it in the next few days and can let you know once I've had a chance to go thru it.

Bill, you have the book. What do you think? I saw that it had several great scripts. Perhaps, Gail, you could stop in at a bookstore and see if they have it. If you look at it in person it can help you decide. Since it is more on the expensive side and I'd hate for you not to be able to use it. I do encourage both NLP and Imagery to bookend your hypnotherapy practice. Both are excellent compliments. My guess is the book has enough great content, even if you don't know NLP. I'll let you know once I get it.

Hi Karen, and all...

That book sounds interesting, will check it out for sure. Weight loss and fitness is the area that I want to specialise in.

Cheers

Deb
