Hypnosis On Stage

A group for stage hypnotists to discuss the issues of the day, exchange ideas, techniques and skits. Moderator: Lee Darrow, C.H. Official Hypnotist t…

Ground Rules

Okay, since this is a group about stage hypnosis, but not for selling your shows, here are a few ground rules:

1) Please show respect to all members by not spamming the group with pleas for bookings, agencies or gigs. If you want to do that, feel free to start a group dedicated to marketing stage hypnosis.

2) No multiple conversations on the same topic. If you post multiple conversations with the same content, you will get One Warning, ONE suspension and then you will be removed from the group.

3) Please show respect to all members of the group, even if you disagree with them. Argue issues and ideas, not people and personalities.

4) Have FUN!

5) SHARE

6) Lastly, this is not the place for arguments about whether stage hypnosis is "ethical" or "proper" or not. Take that as a given for this group. If you disagree - fine, but please... this is NOT the place for it.

Hello all, I have done the trance solution side of hypnosis as well as online hypnosis for several years now. I recently made the decision to expand into Stage Hypnosis. I had been tossing the idea around for a while but when I went on a cruise recently I had an opportunity to do some stage hypnosis for their talent show. I found I liked it very much and for the next several days was complimented by the other passengers on how much they liked it. I have taken a distance learning stage course from Geoff Ronning and have followed his guidelines in building different shows for different venues. I hope to be able to use the wisdom of this group to hopefully avoid some pitfalls that I still may be ignorant of. I welcome any advice or guidance you can offer.

Thanks
John

Here in NYC, the Transit Authority has had a slogan since before I was born, Safety First. The idea is it's better not to run a train nor a bus, if the safety is not maintained. Whether it's driving your car, or hosting a stage show, you are better off not moving along if the safety is not maintained.
The only times I've veer been a pain in the a-- with a show location, is when it's a safety issue. From creaky riser stages to strange environments, wires, sort stages, loose chairs, etc., I'd rather go on late or not work if things aren't right. I have also done shows where non-volunteers felt compelled to run forward to give some suggestions of their own, if you want to see a pissed off Trance-master, you should see me under those conditions, "keep breathing, relaxing, floating while kick this jerk to the curb. with every movement of my foot, and every yell you hear, you are relaxing 10,000 times deeper. . . " LOL
For me, it's safety and protecting my volunteers first.
Wouldn't it be great if everyone did that?

Well Friends:

I just became aware of another, apparent lawsuit against a US stage hyp!

The article was on tmz.com. I am removing the hyp's name. You can read it online for yourself.

Safety, safety, safety & common sense.............

Some poor bastard who was hypnotized into believing he was riding a horse on a Vegas stage wants payback after steering his invisible steed right off the damn stage.

In a Nevada suit, Chad Lee claims that last year, hypnotist XYZ put him under a spell during his Vegas show at Harrah's. He also says XYZ told Lee to "look between his legs and ride a prop," commanding him to believe it was a "black horse." Then, says Lee, he "ran off an elevated stage with the prop between his legs believing he was riding a black horse."

The lawsuit claims Lee was injured, but fails to be specific. Can you sue over injured pride?

Harrah's couldn't immediately be reached for comment.

Hello, I recently heard a respected professional say that NGH was working to
eliminate Stage Hypnotists from the membership. I discussed this rumor with Rev. Scot Giles, a key leader in the National Guild of Hypnotists, and he assured me that the NGH leadership was loyal to Stage Hypnotists and Stage Hypnotism as a practice. I hope this helps NGH members and those not affiliated with NGH.
thanks, William Mitchell

Hello, Stage Hypnosis is the primary media from which many people learn the POWER of hypnotic phenomena. I wish the professional groups that ridicule or ban Stage demonstrations
could understand "it" is not going away.My role in Stage hypnosis is too use it first to entertain in an ethical manner, then to use the opportunity to create a positive belief in hypnotism as a tool for change among those previously unexposed ,and to teach my students about the ethical use of hypnotic phenomena whether they aspire to Stage Hypnosis or clinical practice.
Stage is great fun and amazing as a demonstration of the power of hypnotism.

Just an up date for those who like to hear success stories. Over the fourth of July weekend I appeared in Denver for the USA MENSA convention and they sold 2,022 ticket for my show. I had fourty volunteers on stage and eveyone of them worked perfectly.

A month later I entertained at the NGH 2008 convention and of course there were hundreds there. The show was a hit and I was happy to entertain my peers. Last week I did a "walk around" (its a little like street hypnosis) hypnosis show in a large lounge and the people just loved it. The owner also loved it as the place was so full they need to call the police to control those wanting to get in. Do I have difficult shows..you bet, but I forget them quickly.

Okay, since so many people are asking about it, here's the scoop on the book - I am currently working on a deal with a real publisher to get this thing into print and circulation. As soon as I have some more specific information I will post it.

I am also working on putting on either a pre- or post-convention class at the Mid America Hypnosis Convention being held in the Chicago area in late October. More on that as things firm up.

Thanks, everyone, especially Richard Rumble and Don Rice, for their kind words and support of my efforts in this field. The NEW edition of the book will contain the additional materials that I handed out at the recent class I taught here in May, which applies to chairs and stage types.

I will keep the group posted!

Hi Kendra, From you questions I would assume this is your first show. Believe me when I tell you every hypnorist was frightened the first time.First you book a show for APPROXIMATELY 1.5 hours. It's too much work to try and keep it to an exact time. Also I have never had a group time me. As far as knowning how long your show will go it can be accomplished by roll playing or counting you skit. I find the average skit will last about three minutes so you will need thirty skits to be safe. You can also use up time with your introduction, volunteers coming on stage, preparing the volunteers to be hypnotized and hypnotizing them which you can make VERY long if you need to fill in time. Releasing the volunteers and thanking the group at the end of your show will use another 6/7 minutes.

If I can be of further help just ask. Don Rice

Ok wondering, you are booked to do an 1.5 show. What or how do you know that your show will go that long ??

Do you role play/ act the show and time it ?

Kenda.
