What has been your experience with Podcasting? Why are you doing it? Do you beleive you can monetize it? Would love to know....

I haven't even tried to monetize the EMC podcast, because I see it as a way of giving back to the community. (I don't even advertise my own services on it, which I'm assured is insane.) I want to give something back to the community that's given me so much over the years. :)
its funny that people always associate money with taking and free with giving... Here's a thought I suspect you could charge and still give much to the community... One of the things you can do is take some of the money you make/collect and fund other community sites. Just a thought...

I might do it with a personal podcast, or one that was all inductions, but not the EMC podcast. I want it to be a community resource. If I start charging for that, fewer people will listen at first, no matter how benevolent the intentions or what happens to the funds.
I want to Podcast as a way to promote my therapy programs to the general public. Obviously, I'm using other vehicles as well but think Podcasting is one great way to do that. My general theory is to have a monthly podcast that is specific information for a particular illness, such as IBS, that is free or for a nominal cost. Then, people can download the session for a fee that is less than they would pay for a session with me. I've tested the effectiveness of my sessions on people who have never and probably never will have a hypnosis session with a live hypnotherapist and the loss of effectiveness is less then 4%. So, I know the therapy still works well in this type of format. What do you think about my concept?
Hello Melissa,

nearly 6 months are gone, what do you think now of podcasting...and how did you improve?

Greetings

I am looking forward in learning I understand it is easy to learn to a point let's see what happens....
As far as finances goes, I tend to view my podcasts as advertisement. I initially got into podcasting after hearing someone say "well, you could just tape your lectures and upload them to the net..."

Students tape my lectures all the time, so I figured that it would be a quick and easy way to get my name out there.

Turns out that such a simple idea made for a terrible podcast...my students tend to like my lectures due to the interactive nature, but it came out pretty flat on tape, with lots of dead spaces as we did activities and questions that couldn't be heard on the recording.

As such, I took my canned lecture notes and sat in front of my computer (I already had a very good microphone and some computer recording equipment because I play and record music as a hobby). My first several episodes was part of a 6-hour talk I sometimes give to psychologists on methamphetamine dependence and treatment (not from a hypno perspective, though) and have just now gotten around to doing other stuff.

It's been great fun, but I've had a bit of a difficulty keeping up with it...
