Hypnosis, The Christian and the Bible

As we discuss Christian views of hypnosis let's remember Jesus' teaching that we love our neighbor as ourselves. If you have questions about hypnosis from a biblical perspective, then post your question and you will find answers.

I find this an interesting topic but seems that comments have been slow. It seems people tend to fall into opposite or apposing views on this topic. Lots of fear, confusion, personality types and power struggles in this area as in most christian discussions. But I would like to ads my thoughts. I personally believe that like all tools or principles that hypnosis can be used in a healing spirit in line with christian or biblical principles as well as in unchristian or unhealthy manners with twisted intentions. What I want to share is two areas. One is wisdom is many times found in the integration of what at first appears as opposites. Wise as serpents and gentle as doves is an example. Second I think what stands out to me is not what we use as overt hypnosis but more the principles taught in NLP are all through scripture and in the life of Jesus and even the way scripture is written using visual, emotional, metaphoric, past, present future time shifts. Rapport is a principle clearly taught in scripture, as well as creating questions of confusion and then planting truth in hearts of the hears. I believe the states of consciousness experienced are natural experiences of the human mind and are placed there by our creator and used by him in his dealings with us and revealing himself to us. So what we call hypnotic states is something God is very aware of and comfortable with. It is possible that calling theses states hypnotic has caused confusion ( among Christians ) and hinders the ability to see to the truths of altered conscious states all through scripture in more healthy ways. So anyone have any thoughts.

i dont profess to be an expert on scripture or hypnosis although I have spent a great deal of time over the years studying both. While I accept that one can be both a Christian and a hypnotists, I do believe that there are those who seek to find the occult in hypnosis and evidence of hypnosis in the bible. Both are offensive to me as a Christian , the group "Jesus was a hypnotist" are one such group whose views I find offensive and distasteful. So I can see no link between hypnosis and the bible other than through the practising therapis who is also a Christian and who brings this passion to his/.her practise... thats my thoughts on the matter...?
