I have a slightly different approach to street hypnosis, in that I sit down at a table with a sign at one street faire or another and wait for people to come to me--so I don't know whether anyone will have any insight on this.

Today I spent all day at a street faire with very few volunteers and very little interest. At the end of the day, just as evening was coming on, I started breaking down my booth, when I was suddenly inundated with volunteers wanting to be hypotized. A sizable audience quickly gathered, and my trancers and I put on quite a show until the event organizers told me that their insurance only covered us until closing time, so I had to shut down.

Reflecting on it, I realized that all my really good times doing street have been at night. Do you think that's a fluke, or does time of day/night really matter?

Well I know for a fact that it gets easier to actually put them down (as they are more tired and eyes close easy) but as far as the actual time of the day I guess thats when they start coming out to play! As for for me I usually do it on a weekend on the Market here in Ottawa Canada...you always get people and could do it pretty day or night there people are always all over the place. My teacher Sean Micheal Andrews has more vids of day time events than night time events on his youtube account but that could simply be due to better lighting...One thing I can say don't do bars, unless there is a bit of an isolated area or if its a stage show...then your pretty much guaranteed some attention.

Hope it helps.

There's another reason to do this in the daytime. I've found that as it gets later, a more beligerent set of people start to prowl. A colleague and I were out not too long ago, some were drunk and obnoxious. Others were stoned and tried to say we were doing some "evil, voodoo, shit."

Another reason to work during the daytime is a practical one -if you're filming, daylight is better.

I think it's probably just a function of the particular crowd's mentality - what their mindset is at different times of the day.

People generally seek "entertainment escape" in the evenings - you go to a movie or play or out to dance at Night - whilst during the day people are more in the mindset of working, eating, shopping, accomplishing goals set for the day - being generally more 'conservative' in their thoughts and behaviors - no matter where they are.

Even at state fairs, people (adults, that is) do more browsing/shopping during the day at the vendor booths - and then engage in the rides, midway games and shows at night.

I don't know what marketing tools you use at these events, but perhaps if you put up a banner or sign during the day advertising "Reduce Stress Now" or "Feet Tired? Get Refreshed Here, Now!" you'd attract more day-time-mindset business. People will stop by to relieve tension, feel like they got a massage, and become more energized.

You could even put up a sign saying "Quit Smoking, NOW!" - and if they stop and ask, give your clinical pre-talk, and show an example of the power of hypnosis by demonstrating a little street trance. Then, maybe you can get $100 or so to do a 10-15 minute quit smoking session, if the client is motivated to quit, NOW - or set an appointment for the next week.

Either way, if you've engaged them in some way and had the opportunity to do anything with them, they will go on and talk about it to others they see around the place, and direct you more traffic.

Just a few thoughts - hope they help.

James:
I do agree here with Paula's point of view, people tend to work by day and party by night.
So after a day's worth of seriousness, nighttime has come, and it's time to have some fun.
Another point of view, it's always when you're about to leave when everybody gets more courageous and wants to get a last shot and having a few laughs and a good time.
I have done many hypnosis stage-shows, where I almost had to drag reluctant volunteers up onto the stage, but as I was leaving I had to Speed-Trance sometimes as many as 50 plus people in order to get out of the building.
People! You've gotta love them!
