Sound Bytes

Not being all that "web suave" how does one go about putting a "sound byte" on their webpage. Directions for dummy style would be helpful.

1. Get your web person to do it for you, it's easy for anyone with that experience.

2. Use a service like Audio Generator. This one is about as simple as it gets, but locks you into a monthly service if you want to keep the audio on your site. I think it's $19.95/month. If your website is making you money, it's no big deal.

3. buy software like Web Audio that creates a drop in player for you.

This one requires you do a little more work on your end, but you only pay for it once. $39.95 Note, this one is windows only. I'm sure there is a Mac equivalent.

I do all my recording on my Mac, store audio files on the web using Amazon's S3 storage, and use the JW Player (flash based video & audio player). But I used to do live audio sound engineering and I've been working on the web since the late 90's so it's easy for me.

One very important point... the file format you should use is MP3.

This is a recognized standard on the Internet and all streaming players work with it. The reason it's so popular is because it has a large amount of 'compression' without loss of quality. This makes the file size smaller, and the amount of bandwidth used smaller.
