I have been coaching (life coaching), very part time, more as a hobby (because I've only had 3 paying clients) for almost 4 years while I invest in a business loan (aka "day job").,  I am new to the hypnosis field & have been learning hypnosis on my own - reading, Richard Nongard's DVD's, Uncommon Knowledge DVD's - and will be attending Richard's basic training in TX later this month.

I love what I've been learning about hypnosis and can see how it fits perfectly into coaching, as well as my life purpose.  I'm also hoping that hypnosis will be a little easier to market / promote.  While it seems hypnosis is misunderstood by many, there is at least a better understanding in the general population that hypnosis can help people change & improve their lives.  Life coaching doesn't have that recognition yet.

So the question I have relates to whether or not I should rename my business for marketing purposes. I've watched Richard's video about getting the domain name for your city, i.e. ChicagoHypnosis.com, and have done that (with a "hyphen" as well as www.mycityhypnotist.com).  But should I start a new LLC with that same name?  It seems to me that is a logical step, but just wanted some feedback from this group.  I don't want to spend any extra money if it won't help.

Thanks!

I don't think it matters what the name of the LLC is.   ANytime you want to present yourself as something else you can, and if you want to cash checks or get a merchant account with some variation, just file a DBA, which takes 2 minutes and in most cites less than $10.

So my tip would be get a local domain name, and use it as the llc (if you really think that is the best structure for you- I am still sold on sub-s corps, but I'm old...)

I agree with Richard.  File a DBA (Doing Business As) with your local state county. You can then bring in your DBA papers to your bank and open up a business checking account with that name.  Much easier and a lot less expensive.

As far as how to name a business.

If possible, but the benefit of the business in the name.

Example:  Constant Contact

One of the best names for an automated email service.  (too bad they are one of the worst of the email service providers).

Another option is name the niche market you serve.

Example: IBM Credit Union

Pretty obvious they are for IBM employees.

Another option is a name you give yourself that positions you in the market

Example:  King of Copy

My friend Craig Garber is an A-list copywriter.  He calls himself the "King of Copy" which is a play on Gary Halbert calling himself the "Prince of Print".  The names says he's one of the best and thus very expensive (he charges $50,000 for copywriting) but he gets results.

Another example "The Bicycle Attorney".

A cyclist who specializes in bicycle law.  This is both niche marketing and affinity marketing combined.

www.bicycleattorney.com

"former road and cyclocross racer and current bicycle commuter. I started riding seriously in the mid 1990’s..."

Hope that gives you some ideas.

Cheers,

Craig

Thank you Craig!
