Hi Gang,

I just discovered this discussion and thought you would all like to know about a video that my IT guy did for all you hypnosis pros to help improve your search engine ranking.

There are 3 videos on the subject.  They are all very simple and easy to follow.  This is the first one in the series.  Click here - They are all free... http://www.calbanyan.com/archives/2008/07/18/hypnosis-podcast-82-10....

Hi Doreen - You are welcome. I'd love to hear your comments after you have seen the videos. You can also just forward them to your IT guy so that he/she is aware of these things.

Hi Cal,

Well, first off, let me say ... great marketing! I'm sure this is going to pull a few hits to your site.

As a former and part time marketer, I just want to interject something that was brought up in the video.

Celeste mentioned that she is firing her web developer because he is not on top of her website and she lost ranking on Google. She then also mentioned that he charges $275, $375, etc. for a website.

First, there is a common misconception that a web developer is an SEO specialist. Heck, maybe they are, but these are additional services. You don't go to your general practitioner for heart surgery. It's the same with a web developer and SEO.

Second, I've seen a $50 million a year company object to a $3,000 website proposal - claiming it to be too expensive. They falsely believed that the Internet is cheap. You really get what you pay for.

For instance, your hypnosis training isn't value priced because it's quality. But there are thousands of other places to get hypnosis training from. If you get a 15 hour certification, is it the same quality training that you get at Cal Banyan Hypnosis Center? No, of course not. That's why $275, $500, even $1,200 websites are really just wastes of money. Yes, even if it's wordpress! You need to keep pushing and adding to your website in order to get rankings. If you do not know how to do this yourself, I'd say learn ... or be prepared to pay for it and stop compaining about how your web developer who created the site for you for $250 didn't market your site online for free forever.

Look at it this way, Taylor costs you money. Your website cost you a lot more than $10,000 initially. Your weekly video blog/podcasts are costing you money to put up...the web isn't cheap. Everyone just thinks it is.

Lastly, this series looks to be a good intro to SEO. But it looks like he is going to talk mostly on-page factors. These only make up about 30% of your SEO. It's the offpage factors that really count. If you want to get advanced, talk about why this link to my website Miller Hypnosis Atlanta is worthless here on hypnothoughts. Hint = "nofollow"

Sincerely,

Michael Miller
Hi Carl, No IT guy here :), I will check it out later when I am back from watching a mind blowing documentary screening that I was invited by one of my ex clients, and It's about "How Skyrocketing Disease Rates, Pollution, and Fraudulent Research Are Connected" Apparently it is an educational science and medicine documentary. I am looking forward to find out more Information about.

Hello Michael,

You are right. The Web and our sites are not free but they are a great investment (when done right). I currently have two full time IT people working for me and we are currently in the process of hiring another.

We work on our sites all the time. The very important onsite SEO info (search engine optimization… getting good ranking on the search engines) that Taylor covers in the video are things that can be done to sites right away and can have a huge impact on how well a site ranks in the search engines. That is why we focused on onsite SEO. Also, onsite SEO is what the owner of the site has the most control over.

For sure, offsite factors area also important in regard to SEO. We used to do link exchanges and all that kind of stuff. But now we mainly focus on getting quality content on the sites, i.e., articles, audios, videos and so on. This encourages others to link to our site which makes the search engines love us all the more. We also interlink between our other sites which have high Page Rank so that we can send some Google love to the sites, especially new ones.

If you all want to put together a list of SEO questions we can have our Web guy Taylor do another video for you all. He can talk about offsite factors as well if you are interested and answer any questions that you have about anything else.

Oh, and one last thing… Your link to your site that you put at the end of the message is not completely worthless. The members of the discussion group might click on it. I did. I took a quick look around and I think I found something that could help your site get you more clients. If you haven’t done so already, you can add a list of towns and cities within a certain radius around your office (i.e., a 20 or 30 mile radius). That way when your site is indexed by the search engines they will include those towns and cities names. Then when someone searches for “hypnosis” and the name of their town within that radius your site will become more likely to come up in the rankings. I teach this to my students all the time. It works.

Have a great weekend.
