With Parents and Professionals, it was never either/or, it is both/and.  As a parent you know you can't be all things to your child, so you do the best you can AND you supplement your own knowledge and experience with the knowledge of professionals AND the people you turn to for wisdom.

Should parents replace professionals?

Hi Lee:

here's a quickie.  show her a group of different sized stones and most importantly let her choose one.  then either in hypnosis or out tell her every time you touch the stone, feel its texture and it shape, its coolness or its warmth you feel calm, relaxed and comfortable.  i sometimes tell a story of where the stone came from, like a beautiful lake etc., etc.  ive seen clients out in public months later and they show me their stone and a big smile on their face.

Of course, you need to do a lot more than that, especially incorporating suggestions attached to things she is interested in music, stars, films etc.

having had some experience with misdiagnosis and cancer clients i would say  her first need is to increase the feeling of safety.

but heres my contribution im sure you will get a lot more.  and the best of luck.

I would appreciate any advice. I am due to see a 12 (nearly 13) year old girl who has recently developed extreme panic attacks when inside in places that she must sit such as school, cinema, restaurants. She recovered from a brain tumor a couple of years ago after chemotherapy following a long time being misdiagnosed with migraines. She is calm and relaxed when at home with her family. I am aftersome good imagination exercises for her age to experience the power of her mind to control her body. Thanks very much, Lee.
