Thanks for your reply Barry. I totally understand the targeting your market. I was just curious as to whether you sent your info to a particular reporter or the editor or whomever.

Hi SDR,

The key point was that I knew where my target client was, I then selected a publication in that market and emailed the Editor and Asst Editor, explaining what I do and the results I have had and suggested that if they were to ever write about this area (hypnotherapy in sports) then would they consider using me to help with some input? Of course when the Editor tells a journo to contact someone they act, and in this case it took nearly 2 months but the output is that they have used a few sentences of mine in an article and will credit me along with giving my email address. I can use this as leverage to promote in other areas and have also started a new relationship that could lead onto bigger and better things. Maybe it was the right place at the right time but if I hadn't have emailed in the first place the opportunity would not have happened.

That is GREAT news! Who did you direct your initial contact to?

Just wanted to share this with you guys, recently I offered my services to a national magazine and a few weeks ago I got a call from one of their journos who asked me to add some points to an article they were working on. My contribution was accepted and now my name and website will be published in the April edition of their mag, and the best bit is that its for free. You've just got to ask sometimes and you never know you may get the right answer.

All the best,

Barry

I have developed a "Business Basics of Medical Hypnosis" manual for my students that I now have on my web store.

This manual covers the business of getting clients and referrals and keeping them, marketing your business, sample forms and the question of billing insurance is covered. If you choose to bill insurance a form has been filled out to show you how. Enlisting the help of your hospital is also covered.

Marketing your business never stops although...one good doctor referring to you keeps your business growing.

Marketing is critical to starting any new business and it is best to clearly define what you want to do with your business and then come up with a marketing plan to develop what you decided you want to do.  My plan has several phases and some phases are more time consuming and labor intensive than others..... a plan is a key factor to succcess.  Sounds so simple but how many people actually do write a plan out and follow it?

No matter what type of service/ modality one offers, marketing oneself is crucial to their success. I look forward to this group blossoming over time.
