Imagine being able to take a six year flyte, to a planet called Pandora and when you get there you are told that you are going to be fighting for the good of the country? You are there to protect your country's best interest, you are a marine, your programming should be perfect for this asignment, unless you see, hear and feel what is really going on on Pandora.

Your legs havn't worked for you, you are in a wheel chair, you find out that your mission is to replace your fallen brother and to honor your country.

You take full advantage of being "Transformed" into your own Avatar, your so excited to walk again that you blow through the testing, just take off and run, run as fast as possible. You relive your past, you exercise your new strength. Standing seven feet tall, in perfect shape you morph into a super human being.

Your instructions are to befriend the enemy, get recon and bring it back to your people with the belief that you will be protecting them... Or so you think is the case.

Yet, once you set foot in the jungle of Pandora, you are now game for the many incredible species that inhabit Pandora, you have under estimated your new adventure, you become the prey and you are rescued by your so called enemy...

You earn the trust of their people, you can equate them to primitive Indians, Aboriginies, people from the past of earth, living on an incredible planet, they allow you your freedom, they share with you their world, their food, they give their all to you,, and your job is to take the recon back to your commander, record everything that you have learned on Pandora

You are nursed to health, you are accepted by them, you find them to only take what is needed to eat, you see how they live in harmony and balance, you transform in and out of your Avatar and your beliefs are changed drastically. And in the back of your mind, your true beliefs align with the people of Pandora.. What would you do now?

This movie is hypnotic if not mesmorising. Take a snack,, it's a long one,, yet the color,, the imagination, the sets, the depth of sets, the interaction of man and animated Avatars, the animals, trees, floating moutains are so well done that you are glued to it,, your own imagination is being expanded.

James Cameron, take a bow,, this one is hypnotic and is for the whole family. You will laugh out loud, you will feel pain, you will have high's and lows,, and you may just get the message of this incredible journey of man versus the unknown...

This one's off of the charts.. I can best describe it as 3 D times five.

And of course,, Mr Cameron has a love story to boot, go figure.

Hope you have time to see this mesmorising flick..

Thanks, Scott. My kid and I plan to see it soon. I have a feeling the realistic effects will creep me out a bit!
It's obviously aimed at some one younger than I am. The technology is awsome. lot's of neat effects and as a hypnotist I couldn't help noticing the emotional manipilation. My perception of it was that it was anti human, anti industrial, anti war, and another in a line of those strange "Planet as God" flicks Hollywood likes to write. Having humans cast in the role of the aliens in Will Simth's Independance day or H. G. Wells War of the Worlds, does not resonate well with me. But that's just me.

I saw it yesterday, in 3d on an Imax. It is visually amazing. I liked the story line even if it was essentially Dances with Wolves meets Fern Gully in space.
It’s been some time since I found myself moving around in my seat while watching a movie, but that early Thanator scene… great.

The visuals and sound of this movie were exceptional in Imax, 3D format. The story was OK. For my taste (bias) it was missing diversity and complexity. That may have been intended, I don’t know. I would’ve preferred a wider variety of “villain/perpetrator” and “enlightened/intuitive” characters.

In the perpetual search to find meaning in our lives and something greater then ourselves and to be entertained, movies ARE hypnotic….(directors (etc.) are manipulating) the movies appeal to the senses, illicit emotions, create illusions and landscapes, gives the audience hope, instills belief systems, gives lives meaning and hope, even if temporary.
Avatar is not a different theme then any other movie. Avatar is the basic hero’s journey with increasing high tech visual effects; a cross between Dances with Wolves and smurfs who grew up and got conscious.

Good vs Evil.
Good average (G.I.) Joe, hard luck, down times, alone, youthful, good looking “Joe” with a hot body except he can’t walk, and therefore “defective” . Good guy does the right thing against the established order, prays when all else fails (even if you aren’t sure that there is a diety), prayers get answered, gets rewarded for his efforts by scoring with the really hot blue chick with the promise of love everlasting and a rebirth into a new body (one that can run) while redeeming the belief in the inherent goodness of humanity…we are all connected and ONE. Don’t upset the order of things buddy, because we have a savior and the mother of us all is going to kick some butt.

There is evidence that in hard economic times, film box office sales soar. There is a high demand for emotional and visual stimuli to escape the everyday work/living routines, disillusions of a perceived life style promise gone…. real ugly. Hypnotic ? You bet! Many people report, “It is feel good movie”, “I almost cried three times and I am a man, it is the best movie I ever saw!” “Wow, it was more then great! It made me feel so good!”

Personally, I believe in The Force….it is always with me. Everything I wanted to know about life I learned from Yoda. And, as long as I have my ruby slippers I can dance on the yellow brick road….cause “I got the Power!”… with a “New Attitude” and all I have to do is click my heels together three times...
Happy hypnotic and HOT Holidays..but you better watch out, cause Santa Clause is coming to town…next year…but he is making his list now…and checking it twice. Still, I say go for it, and not buy into punishment for pleasure sake.
Besides, we always have an out..the word's I am sorry, so sorry... will do just fine..or we can just hypnotize him into putting you on the nice list, after all....tomorrow's another day....

Thanks, Scott. My 16 yr old son is a huge computer animation fan so he's looking forward to the experience. I'll be happy just as long as I don't snore. And, I look forward to the previews where they tell everyone to silence cell phones and crying babies (I always make a crying baby sound in the silent pause following...lol)

Pretty much my views as well Micheal,

Story could have been a little less obvious, yet, perhaps, because it was a PG movie,, they dumbed it down for the kids, and myself,,, ha ha,,,

The kids were on edge,, they laughed out loud when Sully had to capture his part Taradactle, part dragon for his own flying "Steel Horse I ride" When we heard that it would likely kill him,, all of our kids were cheering the Dragon on!!!! Pretty funny as we were in the movie for some time than.

Namaste right back at ya,

Scott
