Just though I'd throw out a question for anyone who wants to comment. As a full time hypnotherapist I feel it is important to deprogram your own sub-conscious of negativity we might pick up when working with clients. Doing 5-Path hypnotherapy, I would see a lot of client that suffer from depression, have been through traumas or have had some sort of abuse in their lives. I find that at the end of each day using 7th Path Self hypnosis on myself helps me get back into balance and has an amazing effect on my sub-conscious. Whats your opinion on using some form of self hypnosis or do you find it is not necessary?

Hi Bobby,

Great question, I would be surprised if you didn't use self hypnosis to help yourself through your own life. I take 30 minutes every day and have lost 70 pounds, stopped smoking cigars and when I am stressed I can't wait to lock myself in a room to wind down. My next goal is relaxing while I eat, to be more aware of my meals. I think it would be interesting on how others feel about this and also if they indeed practice self hypnosis, what technique others use. Currently I make an MP3 and listen to that but I am also practicing to do it on the fly without a MP3.
I have at least 3 clients a day, and always seem to be in an altered state myself, lol, the last thing I need to do is self hypnosis.
The last time was in the dentist chair having 2 teeth out, self hypnosis came in handy there.
Hi There

I know i don't have clients yet personally i don't believe that they are stressful. At the moment I'm currently attending college and i regularly use self hypnosis in a lot of situations. I tend to listen to a CD that i created on audacity after studying for certain exams when I'm at home which reliefs a lot of stress, it is always nice to change a negative voice into a positive.

Bobby you mention 5-Path and 7th Path...what are those? Do you have scripts for them etc. Also trying to grab more ideas of how to do things ;)
Hello Bobby, I aprreciate this discussion, I wonder is "5-Path" & "7 - Path" Hypnosis availible in literature and / or is it an availible class that one can take.

I am still trying to recover from western civilization myself, and trying to help others do the same. I am living my life as if I am going to die at the end of this year, I believe here in the west people are very much afraid of death, but I also believe that they are even more afraid to live.

I am trying to follow the example set forth by Stephen Levine in this approach, I feel it is a great way to get out of the "trance" of western ized indoctrination-ism.... and to connect more deeply in to the present as well as my fellow humans, etc.
5-Path and 7-Path is taught by Cal Banyan in Orange County, California....He hols a few courses and are worth checking out......www.hypnosiscenter.com.....or www.calbanyan.com
Hi

I can imagine how self hypnosis would be an important part of your day when you have lots of clients coming especially if dealing with the likes of abuse cases etc.
I keep coming across scripts that i think would be brilliant for myself so was thinking of doing a few recordings that icould listen too as i find it hard at the moment to switch off from my inner voice so having an actual cd to listen to with a deepener or 2 would be preferable to me
Very important topic. I'm currently an undergraduate psych major and will have a number of years until I begin formal hypnotherapy training. I think that it is vitally important that anyone in any helping profession, especially the mind oriented professions, have a way to deprogram and do it regularly. On top of being a student I also work full time in a very high stress job usually with people who are themselves under tremendous stress and often experiencing a traumatic event in their lives. I am very fortunate in that I have used self hypnosis since I was a kid and have actively meditated for years. I think that it is critical to have some form of mental self care like hypnosis and or meditation to remain effective in a helping profession and avoid burn out. Personally I could not have survived in my field without it. Even if a person is not dealing with emergency situations or clients with chronic anxiety or depression issues on a everyday basis, it is just as important to have a way to deprogram to protect one self and ensure that one can perform to the highest level they are capable. It is possible to feel completely fine yet be seriously effected by the suffering of those around you. It can accumulate and be very subtle before the subconscious finds a way to make the conscious mind aware that there is a problem brewing.

I personally incorporate self hypnosis to work on specific areas utilizing mp3 files as well as my own unscripted procedures. When using a commercial mp3 for self hypnosis I tend to use Barry Konicov's "Relieve Stress and Anxiety" because it has a part in it for releasing accumulated negativity and Dr. Emmet Miller's "Rainbow Meditation".  For everyday meditation I do a Buddhist mindfulness meditation called the Meta Bhavana and or a mindfulness breathing meditation.

I am known for being very calm at work among my coworkers. This is directly attributable to my use of self hypnosis and meditation not only after obvious stressful events but to help deprogram myself regularly for all the interactions with people that can effect me below my conscious awareness. Empathy and rapidly building rapport are important tools in my job and will be even more so in my future profession. There is allot of information about the positive effects of empathy and the building of rapport with people, but not much on the negative effects on the practitioner.  Even less so on the subconscious effects over time.  I would think that deprogramming regularly would be a very wise practice as hypnotherapists and using self hypnosis (or the assistance of a colleague) would be a very good habit to get into early on.

gentle day,
Lisa
