Has anyone had any direct experience with working with the mirror box and phantom "leg" pain. I have used the box with hands/arms with excellent results ... first time with a leg however.

although i have not actually used this modality, i understand that the VA has published a study regarding the use of mirror therapy in post-operative amputees - the interesting thing is, i believe they have only worked with lower extremity amputees. you may well be able to at least read the paper, by going to the VA's website. Hi,

I am guessing his occupational or physical therapist could build him a personalized box to produce the desired reflection -

Or you could show him some videos and demonstrate how your box works and have him imagine using it --

=^..^=

Thanks for your replies, what I am looking for is more along the lines of what techniques you are using. Example, right now I have the physiotherapist perform various releasing techniques on the good leg while my client watches the phantom leg "receive theraphy". Of course, I still do all of the standard techniques of pain reduction during our regular in office hypno sessions. Just looking for any new insights with the use of the actual mirror box itself.

Thanks

i have used mirror box therapy in many patients (stroke reahab, crps and phantom pain) with variable results. Like most things in Medicine it helps some greatly many a bit and some not at all.
I have posted a few videos on mirror therapy on youtube and authored the site www.mirrorboxtherapy.com (which i suppose could be described as a conflict of interest) however I have posted here just to describe my experiences in the use of the technique and to point out some other resources as well.
post me and i will reply
