My guess is your client's exhibiting a mild abreaction -- Talking to a client's parts reqires the client to create a symbolic fragmentation that constructs the parts that you are talking to. I am thinking your client is startled by your request to talk to his parts - so he snaps out of it and then you soothed and guided him back into the experience...
Perhaps another method would be better suited for this particular client?

I also have had clients who open their eyes during trance ... sometimes for brief moments and sometimes a little longer. That hasn't created any problems. The main thrust of my question was the fact that this client opened his eyes in 2 sessions, each at the time that I was asking to talk to various parts. Maybe an abreaction? Maybe him being a self confessed control freak, he opened his eyes to see what was going on. He then relaxed and all went went well from that point. Thanks for the feedback.
