Good for you, CindyLou, to not press. It's sometimes difficult to not do that. I had a client the other day (3rd session) who is a victim of rape (almost 40 years ago) - she is a bulimic with fibromyalgia - we did Parts the 2nd session: "Confusion" didn't want to get unconfused, "Self" didn't trust Confusion. Finally I called out her higher power, "Love" - but Love didn't have any resolution suggestions which led me to ask if Love was the client's true higher power. "Maybe not" was the response. When I called out the TRUE higher power there was a different voice with some good suggestions/answers, yet still named "Love". There seemed to be resolution at the end of the session, however, she continued binging once back home.

During that session I wanted to lead her to a better place, to encourage the Parts to let go of their dislike and mistrust of each other - ah, wouldn't do that - client centered. The client wasn't ready.

For the 3rd session we did age regression which led to a wonderfully powerful abreaction. Once emerged, the client told me she had discovered some issues previously undisclosed to her. So, I am hopeful. I will call her in a day or three.

Lorna, I did ask the part why it didn't want to speak when I was in the parts session, but just kept getting "I don't know". I don't think doing a parts therapy session against the client's wishes to find out why the parts don't want to talk is appropriate--or even would get answers. I and you know that there is trauma, but the client doesn't want to reveal. And this is client centered therapy, so...I'm not going there. Thanks, though.

Hi CindyLou....I would ask the part that doesn't want parts or regression therapy what is the purpose of not knowing and keep pulling back the layers until you find out and ask how not knowing benefits the client.. I have had clients who reacted this way and often they have had some kind of trauma that they are blocking... but to keep the weight off permanently the subconscious mind need to release any residual emotions around past events and the client needs to accept herself...

I had an interesting parts session the other day. Client would only give "I don't know" answers to my questions. So I continued with direct suggestion for that session. Then she told me later that she didn't want any parts or regression work done. This is for weight loss, so I guess the best I can do is direct suggestion. Any comments?

The Roy Hunter Regression and Parts Therapy workshop in Little Rock, Arkansas was outstanding. We had Hypnotherapists from TX, MO, TN & AR and the positive feedback from all attendees was overwhelming. Roy’s expertise in Regression and Parts Therapy is thorough, and the paradigm shift was palpable. There is a definite application for these techniques in my practice and I highly recommend sponsoring a Roy Hunter parts therapy workshop in your area.

Interesting note about a recent Parts work with a client. After the trance session, the client commented that one of the parts wanted to get up out of the chair and get out, but he could not move! We did negotiate agreement from that part after a bit of exploration and updating, but I found that remark wonderful and it appeared to build belief in the client about the change that had happened.
