Comment by RevLindsay G. King on February 16, 2013 at 10:36am OF COURSE WE ARE INTERESTED IN PAYING IT FORWARD (PIF)
On January 14 past, I turned 83. My wife, Jean, was 83, last June 4. I guess I married an older woman, eh? :) Married in 1952, last October we celebrated, with families and friends, 60 years of marriage. We met as students at Mount Allison University www.mta.ca There Jean prepared for teaching and I prepared for the ministry of the United Church of Canada--1953--1994).
Would it be bragging if we said: Life for both of us has been one PIF, experience?

Jean focussed on teaching--after our children got to be old enough not to need a mother all the time. She specialized in helping children with special needs--the blind, the deaf and physically impaired. I was a minister with the United Church of Canada for just over 40 years. Interestingly, the word 'minister' comes from the Latin meaning servant.
Jean and I both retired in the same year, 1994. Consciously, we chose to spend the rest of our lives wearing out while being of service to, not just rusting out waiting to die, OK! The following links give more details.

=============================
My interest in hypnosis? It actually began when I was in my teens. Later, this took a serious turn when I was at Mount Allison university (1947-1951), in New Brunswick, Canada. There, I did a major in psychology and in philosophy. I actually practised hypnosis on some willing fellow students.
Later, at seminary (3 years) in Halifax, N.S., it eventually began to dawn on me: What is commonly called a "faith healing miracle" is really a phenomenon connected with the one we call hypnosis.Hmmm!
Further progress was made when--thanks to a scholarship I was given--I did two years of post graduate studies at Boston University School of Theology (1954 and 1955).
At BU I focussed on THE HISTORY OF IDEAS. This included the study of the "New Thought" movement of the 19th Century--including the works of Dr. Franz Antoine Mesmer (mesmerism), Dr. James Braid, the Scott, who coined the word 'hypnosis'. And there were others. Stay tuned!

Comment by Linda Boyd-Lind on May 22, 2012 at 4:29am A fantastic idea. I have my many years practiced random acts of kindness without people knowing. I guess it came full circle this year. I live in Queensland Australia and after multiple thunderstorms we had flash flooding with the water sweeping through the house and we basically lost everything. People came out of the woodwork to help us throw out, retrieve and just generally help us. It was a very humbling experience to be on the other end! My random acts of kindness will now turn into pay it forward when I get my practice established.
