In the small amount of pre-medical hypnosis (pre-birth and pre-operation) I've done, I found it helpful to remind the client that they would have all the benefits of modern science there to help them. See, even though it's been close to a century since Munro showed that hypnosis could lead to a greatly decreased need for chemical anaesthetic in surgery, some people are scared of the idea that if they use hypnosis, they won't get the drugs they think they need.

So, for instance, when I worked with a pregnant teenager who was terrified of giving birth, I told her that she could have any medical intervention her doctors were ready to provide. Even after learning glove anaesthesia in her session, she said she was going to ask for an epidural, and I said that was just fine. My goal was not to prove how great hypnosis is, but to help the client.

As it turned out, she had the baby without any medical anaesthetic, because what I'd taught her was enough.

I guess my point is that no matter how you may feel about the medical establishment, increasing your client's confidence in the surgical procedure is only going to help.

Hi Kelley-

I have lots of experience with this application of hypnosis --

I picked this up many years ago and I don't know who to give credit for it --

"You have a team of experienced experts working for you and your job is to relax and let go of all unnecessary tensions before, during and after the procedure..."

I often add the Bernie S. -- You will awaken alert, peaceful and slightly hungry and mention that it is impossible to be hungry and nauseous at the same time--

I also use suggestions for utilizing the anesthesia more effectively and no unnecessary bleeding or swelling which will translate into faster healing --

I do pre-surgery regularly with amazing results. I concur with all the above.

Everyone brings in their own unique selves to the surgery. Their owns risks, the inherent surgery risks, their fears, family support and their desired outcome. I stress THAT THEIR OUTCOME MAY NOT BE THE NORM. They may be told that recovery is a certain time period, or that pain levels are such and such. I encourage them to have the freedom to feel as little discomfort as they .

I also prepare clients with strategies for recovery, ie. how to move the body, how to approach PT and movement.

My clients are PRO+ACTIVE in the surgery process, not passive.

Like James I have also worked with younger woman who are pregnant and are scared and need reasurance that they will be ok. Also Pain surgery oiut patient its really effective also...

Hi Kelley,

For some reason I don't receive all the discussions here and I should? Any ways, I have an experience with Pre-Surgery Protocol, and It is Hypnosis, as we know it does a great job in helping clients through the trauma, anxiety, or fear of surgery. So, when I have a client that is going to have an anesthesia and a surgery, I start teaching them self hypnosis and relaxation and healing before and after surgery.

To be honest, I have found that hypnosis and energy healing, and vitamins can help, of course suggested by their nutritionist or their doctor and also homeopathy can be very helpful too.
All of the above helps with excessive bleeding and recovery from anesthesia and after surgery recovery much more faster.

I have used this protocol with many people and the usual response is, “wow, I can't believe it" and their doctor says, I guess this thing really works, followed with, I need your business card fir stress reduction :)

Here is one I just had Yesterday morning and in 3 and a half hour I am taking her back to see the surgeon to make sure that everything is good.
