Comment by Daryl Wilkinson on March 4, 2012 at 4:08am For the last 5 or 6 years I have been recording some of my sessions live direct to CD using a Marantz CDR 300, bypassing the need to process and burn on the computer. It has the added benefit of being ready almost immediately the session finishers. However over the last year or so I have found that some clients no longer own a CD player and prefer a USB stick or an MP3 file emailed so they can download to their iPod with no fuss. I use an iMac and have found a simple "no bells and whistles" program that records MP3 files. it is called "Lona Audio Recorder" and available on the iTunes app store for under 10 bucks if I remember correctly. It is much quicker and easier when working "on the fly" than Garageband. I now have my setup rigged so clients can choose to have an MP3 file or Cd without me having to repatch or replug. I also underlay a soundscape and reverb effects live as well. I use speakers in the headrest of the recliner so the client hears exactly what they will hear on the recording. It is simple and works really well.
Hi David,
It sounds like you have a decent home recording setup.
Regarding Acid and Pro Tools, a while ago (and possibly currently), Pro Tools was the main software recording program for pro studios. They also make a home version that is comparable to many other home recording programs. I have not used Acid or Pro Tools, but am familiar with them.
Most recording programs are fairly equally sufficient for basic vocal recording purposes as well as for mixing in other sounds. A quality large diaphragm condensor microphone, a quite environment, and good microphone technique will make the most significant improvements for recording vocal tracks.
Best,
Matt
Comment by David Chervick on January 23, 2012 at 4:22am Recording in our sound studio, we use MAudio Speakers ($400) with interface ($450) Nandy mic ($375) and Sony Acid Music Studio 8 ($89). We love our equipment. Had some sound engineers come through to establish best center of room for recording. They were friendly but not much help. I keep going to the local Guitar Store and get mini mixing courses from this young kid. Anyone using Sony or Protools? Always trying to get more proficient. Wish I had a music background.
Hi Martine,
Ok. Dany's answer would have been my first guess. Here are a couple of other possibilities:
1. Make sure you saved the wav file at 16 bit/44.1 kHz. Other resolution and rate formats will not play on many audio CD players.
2. Make sure you are using a CD-R and not a CD-RW.
3. Try to play the CD on a different CD player. Most CD players will play CD-R's, but some do not.
4. Make sure you "Finalized" your CD-R.
5. Check all of your steps here:

Je l'ai fait comme audio. Je l'ai fait plusieurs fois comme audio and still not playing.
T'est où maintenant
Martine
You probably used "burn as data cd" instead of "burn as audio cd" Martine! Just reburn and choose the 2nd one and it will play.
Comment by Martine Brisson on September 5, 2011 at 5:01am Hi group,
I am new to recording CDs. I am going to see a woman for chilbirth using Gerry Kein method. I recorded a deepening script using Audacity. I have save it as a Wav file. I tune didn't want to burn it. Media Player did burn it, but now it plays only on Media Player on a computer and not on a CD player. Help!! I need it to play on a normal CD player. What should I do?

Comment by Brenda Joy Johnson on September 2, 2011 at 7:28pm Hello Everyone:
Matthew thank you for the invitation.
I am learning about recording more as I go along. I have to say that I'm not the most tech savvy person. So I have a lot to learn about producing a good quality recording for my clients. I can see already I can learn a lot from you all.
Thank you,
Brenda
