One more thing that I did not mention,
part of the resolution for a case as you mention is to help release the "bad" feelings in the now, to help the child "see" the good in the now.

Often we are so absorbed by our bad feelings that we can't appreciate the good things we have.

Releasing the negative feelings begins the process of breaking the trances that rob us of clarity, and thus happiness and gratitude.

I am as ardent practitioner of regression as you'll find, but I also know that finding the good, both in the past and in the now goes a million miles for healing and well-being.

Sincerely
Randy

Dear Aprille,

First, I apologize for being absent for so long. My schedule and projects have taken a great deal of time. Also my father was in his 4th car accident and this last one was bad... broke his back. It's been time-consuming to take care of his needs, moving him to the right facilities and taking over his finances, etc.

Feir's comment tells a lot and she is right on. The child does not yet have an adult mind to work with, and that is difficult when we use regression to help the inner mind comprehend the contrasts of the child's perceptions compared to the adult's more experienced and realistic resources.

One thing that has helped my work with children is the use of EFT-type releasing, to work on the feeling to release it, which opens the door to suggestibility and positive changes.

I've had a hard time hearing how some hypnotists jump in an play GOD, or try to take the place of the child's parents with well-intentioned, but counterproductive suggestions. Not taking into consideration the child’s family situation can be a mistake.. Many good sessions are negated as the child goes back the reality of a “dysfunctional” family, particularly the parents....

When working with the child, remember that the child wants is to feel safe and happy. Releasing the negative feelings starts the process, and that is begun in the present when I work with children. Meaning: we don't have to rush off into the past, the child currently has the negative feelings present in her/his life. As the releasing occurs the door opens up into easier and spontaneous regression back to the SSEs and back to the Initial Sensitizing Event. Be gentle, go slow. Let your mind "see" the situation, and ask yourself if this were you as the child, what is it that is wrong or bothersome? And how can it be changed for the child’s healing benefit?

Using your adult wisdom and compassion work with the child as if you are the temporary adult part of her mind. That does put some responsibility on your shoulders, so thus my admonition to go slow, use wisdom, think of the child's perspective and welfare, and how the situation can be released to be healed, and how the child's current mind/age can assimilate it.

That may sound like a lot but read it again and watch how it just makes sense and then you don’t have to think about all the “steps”.

Also, I agree that incorporating some imaginative work and metaphor can really help - as long as the metaphor is crafted for a child’s mind.

But the bottom line for me has been releasing #1, and light regressions to past events to drain them of their emotional power.
And I hope you realize we can release negative feelings in regressions,
right? ;-)

Sincerely,
Randy

How did the regression go with the 8 year old?
Feir Johnson Comment by Feir Johnson on June 5, 2008 at 4:57am
Hello Aprille. When is regression not needed is a good question. I am a regressionist but if I find myself 'bending' it in order to work with a particular issue or client then I usually know that some other technique is called for. As a retired educator with quite an interest in hypnosis and children I recommend the use of Therapeutic Metaphor. Children this age have difficulty with reflection and logical insights. Use this child' fantasy mind to make the changes.

Hi everyone,
I am so glad I found this group. I have been trying to gather information on how to help a child aged 8 with age regression therapy.
He was deserted by his mother as an infant and shows all the signs of reactive attachment disorder.

Any advice?
