Okay, this same client came in for her 4th session, after taking 3 weeks off for various reasons, and
it was a very GOOD thing. As she entered my office I could see she was very emotional, which to me is a great way to start the session because all that emotion meant her critical faculty was waaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyy bypassed already :-)
Her particular problem this day was feeling weak and helpless about driving a truck and trailer back from a job site, as the wind and the weather made her scared and unable to understand why she was feeling this way - ESPECIALLY since after her first two sessions she was so much more in control and able in pressure situations and ------ was using the releasing (negative feelings) tools I taught her so effectively, up until this event of "losing it" driving on the freeway,
two days ago.She is completely compliant with me because of her several successes she's had after her three sessions (not being overwhelmed in pressure situations - with men), including the success of "just feeling some peace and confidence on a daily basis."
So here's is what I picked up in her report in this session, and it surprised me a little.
She was trying to FIGURE OUT WHY she felt so scared, instead of working through the feeling to release it. Once I offered the explanation she was kind of hard on herself - because she knows my mantra: FEELINGS FIRST; thoughts second. Release the feeling = get clarity and answers.
So we simply went to work as I had her close her eyes and recall the events that led up to her scared episode only two days before:
Feeling: Scared
Where: Pretty much everywhere in my body.
Do you want to hang onto that feeling or release it?
Answer: I
really want to release it.
I did very little to set that up, I only started the "set up phrase" and she took it from there through the rubbing and into the tapping. As she finished on the side of her hand she was visibly and tangibly improved and looked very calm compared to when this "recalled" feeling came up 120 seconds ago.
I compounded the success and her release with her repeating my (hypnotically constructed) words.
Now that the scared feeling was gone she got some clarity and reported it to me. But first, remember that she was working on scared, and scared is nervous energy in the body wanting to be released/respected/acted upon. I'd say that the scared feelings she released with me in the chair was not only about the scared feeling in the event but also the scared feeling that all her good work with me fell apart or didn't work this time. Thus, I suggested that she was in a trance two days ago in that bad weather (KEY) on the freeway (KEY).
Then she as she was talking about the event, she herself came up with some insight and offered more details.
She did not tell me that she drove into an accident scene, until now, the second time. That alone brought up a sick feeling so immediately I assisted her in releasing the sick feeling, which she did very well in doing, and then-
She told me, with a cry in her voice that the ambulance was having trouble getting to the accident scene and was GOING THE WRONG WAY! (For heck sakes!)
After I helped her rub and tap and let the cry out, I gently asked: Have you been in an accident before? (Regression hypnotherapist thinking: where was this reaction set up???)
Yes.... Crying. Let her cry as much as was needed until she started telling me about the "other" accident that happened...
12 years ago. She was coming down a canyon, four lane divided highway (LIKE a freeway), she was not the driver and
in a rain storm.... A car coming up the canyon lost control, came across the median and hit her car HEAD ON. Her and her co-worker were shook up but not hurt. (Just imagine the shock!) The driver of the other car was unconscious, the doors would not open and my client began sobbing - because she could she the 20-something girl driver had head trauma and was unconscious.
We worked through every feeling, one at a time, and released them, and each time as she did the emotional intensity of her body was tangibly less and more calm. It mainly was the feeling that she could not help the girl in the car that overwhelmed her. Even when the Sheriff's arrived it got worse because they pusher her away and made her feel even more helpless and ... guilty.
It only took about twenty minutes to clear every negative feeling in that event, until she could clearly and calmly look upon it, recall it in vivid detail, and begin to learn... YES! There are some things we can change,
I will use my strength when I can; there are some things I can't change,
I will accept that and let go; and
I am able to have the wisdom to know the difference. That is the old "drunkerd's prayer" in slighly different language, but after releasing all the awful feelings that event generated and lived inside her for 12 years, there was room inside the SM so she can learn, change, reframe, and grow stronger, with the calm now associated to the event, not scared feelings and tons of guilt.
Then we moved back into the event of two days ago and the only negative feeling that came up was the anxiousness of the ambulance not getting to the accident as quickly as she wanted it to. Once that feeling was released I now had room to suggest this: Even if you did stop, the police would push you away and not let you help. How does that make you feel?
It's out of my hands, and they are the professionals - she said with complete peace in her voice and body. Good... Things happen, but I may not always be able to help - the way I would like to.
Not my job, this time. VERY GOOD. She offered up that last conclusion, not me.
She was amazed that the feelings of the accident 12 years ago were so profoundly alive in her body, and put in into the trance so effectively that she did not use the releasing tools I taught her.
To end, I did some direct suggestions, including remembering to work with the feeling first, and the thought second, to find bodily relief and mental clarity, instead of beating herself up by TRYING TO THINK WHY she was scared. Now: she understands the mechanics of what happened to her and WHY. Feelings first, thoughts second.
We ended with more DS and compounding of the positive and powerful work she did in the session.
There goes an empowered human being, one who understands how her Subconscious Mind works, and most importantly:
how to work with her SM successfully.
This is one simple yet profound example of why I chose regression work to get the roots that some hypnosis methods would not reach.
Out of breath...
Take care,
Randy
