I have always had an interest in the use of Hypnosis to eliminate physical symptoms
I recently had a client that would Blush uncontrollably any time she was asked to talk in front of a group .This made her feel very self conscious and was affecting her career . In the pre talk she told me that it started in University when she was asked to give a tutorial in front of a group . The group pointed out to her how red her face had become , and from that point on she always bushed, even at the thought of talking in front of people .
Of course as Regression Hypnotherapists we know that it probably started long before then .
The traditional way of working with this type of person would have been to regress to a perceived ISE and do some inner child work ..or as in some systems some Gestalt work as well. Usually 3 to 6  sessions .......

But these days we have more information about what works . We have improved on these old methods dramatically . Using a strategy of getting the client to focus in on the thought of talking in front of people and noticing how that makes her feel ,we are able to teach the client how to release that feeling from her body ....and with it , the physical symptom , I am still amazed that hardly anyone uses this method, because it works so well.

When she realised that she didn't have to hold onto the feeling that was creating the Symptom ...the Symptom vanished ....
With this new found power she spontaneously regressed to the scene at the University and just let it go ...

She reports that the blushing is no longer a problem for her and feels as if we have a permanent healing ....

If we can do this with Blushing ,,,,without even going near a childhood ISE, surely we can do it with any physical symptom ...even Cancer
I wonder if mainstream therapists will ever consider the possibilities of releasing negative feelings as a form of legitimate therapy , to be used before drug interventions . I hope that we will one day see this come to be

How do you do that? Is it like an affect bridge to the first time or last time she had the symptoms?

Well yes and no .....
I actually work in the present for a large part of the time ...my first goal is to get the client in tune with how these feelings are creating the symptom ...then proving to them how easy they can get relief by simply acknowledging the feeling and letting it run its course …I then build on each small release and compound their success ….before we regress …..
When they are comfortable releasing these bad feelings and feeling the relief they get from allowing themselves to finally let them run their course instead of suppressing it. Then the regressing happens almost automatically, The SCM just seems to open up and say ….”.here I am “….this is where we need to do some work . Now because the client now knows how good it feels to just feel and release these bad feelings ( because we taught them before ) they just do the work automatically in the regression . It is a very simple process that works extremely well for a lot of things for Anxiety to pain relief
It would take a lot to fully explain it on here but
I can point you in the direction of some excellent study materials on how to do this if you want ( just inbox me and I will give you the contacts )

I have found in 40 years of practice that 99% of physical problems are manifestations of mental thought in this life, so you think so you feel, and regression is unnecessary, Sorry to disagree with any regression aficionados, and I have debated this point many times in this forum.
You are allowed to disagree Art :-)
How would you have delt with the blushing ?

let me make this clear Art ...I worked with the feeling that was making her blush .......the regression was automatic , it was not suggested , The SCM just took her to where she needed to go to make the change
Regression is a normal everyday phenomenon ......have you ever been listening to the radio and a song comes on that automatically takes you back to a special time in your life ? complete with the feelings ...you are there ...? it happens all the time ...just like hypnosis happens all the time ...it is a natural state ...regression is not a state to be feared
and just to add to Art's comment "so you think so you feel".....i would reverse that ....."so you feel so you think " release the feeling and the thought changes ......when you try to change the thought ..the feeling still comes up and gets in the way of the new thought .....Feelings are the dominant force ...thoughts are in the conscious mind ...feelings in the subconscious ...that is why we get better results than talk therapists ...that is why positive thinking alone does not work ....if it did we would not be needed Feelings first thoughts second
I would love to hear your take on that theory Art ....and that is what i want to generate here ...alternative realities ...what else works ?
So let's run the steps and please comment. First there is an event, ISE, an emotional charge (the sensitizing part), setting up beliefs about us, others, the world around us, and beliefs are thoughts, and these beliefs lie in the subconscious. So if emotions run all of our actions/decisions, are these beliefs paired specifically with an emotion, thereby creating the response? Chicken or the egg, or a pairing of the 2? Those beliefs satisfy an emotion.

Yes Cheryl ....it is the pairing of the 2 ...but I have found that when you clear the feeling ...the thought changes automatically ...but when we focus on the thought ...the feeling still comes up when we are in a similar situation.
I would say emotions came first ...in the womb we would feel and sense before we could think
I will sometimes end up in the womb with the client feeling their mothers feelings ...and when that happens that is where we do the work ...so yes I still believe it is feelings first thoughts second.
As for the ISE ....I have some doubt about how important finding it really is ...
Craig, I really agree with you! I've thought since the 80's, when I first heard the idea that thoughts create feelings, that this was backwards. The idea of thoughts creating feelings may be true when we analyze an event to mean something we don't like or to be related to an event we don't like. Mostly, I go straight from perception of a stimuli to the feelings associated with it. I studied Transactional Analysis; we were taught many problematic beliefs and behavior patterns were formed at a pre-language state. Since these were stored at the level of sensory information, these beliefs don't always have a language based thought attached. There have been times when I've notied a "fleeting" thought just after an emotional response, and, for the first time, understood what was underneath the emotional response..
Aye - I would agree with this. I think of emotions/feelings as a vibrational universal language, similar to symbol, sound and color.
