Walt asked for ideas for his self-hypnosis recording! While, of course, he is the best person to know what will be effective for himself, let's talk about what such a recording might contain...

My own includes a trip into the future: I am enjoying myself in a couple of different adventures, such as snowskiing and snorkelling and even a private, personal one! In each I am at my goal size and living the experience within that frame. My body can barely wait to catch up with my imagination!

What other aspects does a good recording feature?

Future pacing your success is great--I also like future pacing a specific behavior, such as exercising more or eating less.

Parts work, in which you ask your creative part to come up with ideas to take more control of your size, can be effective.

Just last night, I was discussing virtual exercise with one of my friends, and he told me that he had included a suggestion that a portion of his mind and body could continue performing virtual exercise when he's sleeping. He said he woke up the next morning with his muscles sore from working out!

(Studies have shown that virtual exercise can actually build muscle mass, which of course improves your metabolism.)

Control room work to enhance the metabolism is another idea I've been kicking around. I heard a recent presentation on metabolism that described it as being like a chemistry lab in your body. I'm planning to go have a word with my chemist to see if he'll start burning calories at a quicker rate.

Walt, in your comments, you mentioned that you believe the next fifty pounds will be harder than the first twenty, and that the last twenty will be harder still. I'd work on reversing that belief. After all, you get better at things the more you do them, right? Also, remember that a healthier body has a better metabolism, so really dropping pounds should get easier and easier. (Your decision to quit smoking will help as well, so long as you take precautions to keep your blood sugar even.)

Also, Walt, maybe you would share some of the techniques you've used so far, as it sounds like you've had great success.

James
