This thread is the place to share proven mental and physical aids for staying on track with your weight goals.

For instance, I find that a local support group with a weekly weigh-in really motivates me. I also find that keeping chewing gum around satisfies my desire for dessert.

With gum being my usual dessert, I feel like eating an apple is a real treat. Mmmmm, makes me want one now . . . that tart, sweet, tangy deliciousness of a crisp Granny Smith apple . . . mmmmm. I actually find myself thinking during dinner, "Oh, if I don't save some room, I'll be too full to eat an apple!"

So what are your tips and tricks? (I realize that not everything works for everyone, but exposure to many ideas can help us all.)

Thanks, Walt...proof that sometimes we need the "power" of another expert to help us get our own power back! Enjoy the ride!

I had a session with Hugh Cole last week and one of the big benefits is that my need to do emotional eating has dropped to zero. Just gone! We took care of lots of negativity and my life has really leveled out. The difference helps me understand why it was so difficult to stay on a plan before. Beyond exercising on the elliptical trainer daily, I'm just going to pay attention to what's happening. Tip: Sweep out the basement.
Walt Thank you for the compliments. Your own self image is the foundation on which we build a new YOU. Your doing great! keep up the good work.

Hi Kelley:

I have just joined this group and came across your email on turning my thoughts and the clients to the end of the exercise. I would like to use some of the wording in a script I am writing on plateaus, if that is all right with you. I find plateaus are the point where clients complain that the hypnosis is not working.

Ive recently successfully overcome a plateau myself which lasted from the beginning of December until last week. So I really understand the struggle to push through one.

I dont know Roger Moore's light switch technique but have recently found that if I cant listen to a weightloss CD counting back from 10 while deepening myself seems to work quite quickly.

Peace and harmony,

Linda
Welcome, Linda! So happy to have you in our group and congratulations on your own success; I hope you ifnd and share further inspiration here.

Feel free to use anything that I post for your own scripts, etc. In addition to the visualization of the end of an exercise session, this procrastination/motivation technique can be applied to any other task that a person puts off.

Another tip for promoting exercise: reframe the exercise to "recess". Most people enjoyed recess as a child and thinking about exercise in this way brings back the fun! Credit to Katie Evans for this one.

Best wishes,

Kelley

I've been reading about the leptin diet. One of the things the author suggests is waiting for 5 hours between meals. In the past I've had a problem with energy highs and lows. Eating a good meal with some fat and then waiting 5 hours has really helped. My daily wait used to fluctuate +/- 5 pounds. Now it's leveled out to from stable to -.5 lbs.

I think my body is getting used to the new way of eating.

Hugh's blogs are great!
Hi Kelley:

Thank you for your warm welcome and permission to use your words and the tip about recess. I know what you mean about exercise, lately Ive been putting in the word "movement" in to my sessions.

Another tip I learned was to never let myself get really hungry because then I overeat. Im concentrating at the moment on getting my clients and myself to recognize the difference between being hungry and letting "the eyes eat first."

I wanted you to know that Im getting feedback on the script into which I incorporated your phrasing about visualizing the end of the exercising. I included it with some paragraphs on Renewing your Commitment to your weightloss goals script that I devised.

Clients have been telling me that theyve decided to incorporate more variety in their food choices and make their diet more exciting and exercise more and this is part of what I wrote with what you said:

Having a filling snack before socialising, having a plan before you go, drinking refreshing water, releasing all desire for sugary drinks or alcohol, planning meals in advance, in whatever way that works best for you , adapting, changing as you change, changing movement, changing exercising, changing, meal plans, exploring new tastes, a wider variety of vegetables and fruit, making adjustments, listening to your body’s signals …… ….. knowing what to eat and how much…. ….making smart choices….…staying satisfied… and always, always, every day having snacks available ……..wherever you go
enjoying nutritious, healthy food: a variety of vegetables and fruits….imagine satisfying hard, crunchy vegetables or sweet, juicy fruit, filling fat free smoothies….Wise choices are natural to you …You make wise choices now and always…...Responding to the
body’s signals…Eating consciously and mindfully….Focusing on the taste, texture and aroma of the food…Releasing all desire to overeat or become hungry …planning…. making snacks always available …. Deeper down now relaxing even further Renewing your commitment to your weightloss goals

The reason Ive insisted on snacks is because Ive found with myself and with clients that if we cut down too much on what we eat our metabolism slows down completely. It is very common for me to talk to clients who eat literally next to nothing and then wonder why they dont lose weight.

Thanks again for your support
Linda

Hi Linda,

What a lovely flow you present here...always with the feeling of moving forward, with the idea of change being positive and productive. I believe it's not so much the particular words, but the feeling of them and the state that they provoke that induces and maintains change.

Thanks for sharing your positive experience...that's what's so great about this venue, isn't it?! Continued success to you!

I find that going into the mind's control center and turning down a craving for a not-so-healthful food or turning up the craving for a more-healthful food (or drink) works great for me and for clients looking to shed excess weight.  I just added my script for doing this to the Script Bank group.
