Relationship Anxiety Metaphor

I recently had a client who was having a lot of anxiety because the gal he is seeing asked for some space in the relationship because she was having some problems physically because of chronic pain. She felt that she could not give the relationship what it needed while she was in constant pain. He was afraid of losing this gal if he couldn't give her the space she needs but giving her what she needs was causing him anxiety.
Here is the script I used with him. This is a script I think could be adapted for others issues.

She may be using her pain to keep from committing to the relationship ....it may just be a habit she has formed when someone gets to close... you may be able to reframe or break this habit .You may be able to uncover the real reason for the pain{stress) and it's secondary gain.
