Comment by Suehypno on March 2, 2011 at 10:53am I've always been very fascinated with this topic in particular. I think part of it stems from my own doubts of my ever being able to reach the deepest levels of trance, and my thinking that maybe if somebody tried convering my sleep to a hypnotic trance, that it would bypass whatever is still preventing me from reaching those deeper levels.
I've talked with a couple of people over the years who have attempted this and had it work. I've even seen it take place once, when a friend in college fell asleep while a bunch of us were watching a movie. She just spontaneously starting talking a little in her sleep, and somebody talked back to her, and it went from there. And of course she had no memory of the events the next morning.
I think maybe part of why you don't hear much about it is that you need two "willing" participants. Right now I don't actaully have anyone to attempt it on me. :^)

Have you ever fallen asleep while watching tv or been asleep when the phone rings? Not every time, but sometimes, you find yourself dreaming about this external stimulus. It is almost as if your mind is tricking you into believing that there is no external distraction at all. YOur dreams are hijacking your reality.
The point is this, you can obviously fuse sleep with external stimulation. I think if your dreams can hijack your external reality, you can just as well hijack your dreams. When hypnotizing folks, we often put people into a theta state, which is the same state of dreams.
I think sleep hypnosis has to take place in this state with a focus on maintaining sleep. It's not really sleep hypnosis if you wake up. When someone is in the twilight zone, pace it and then take it over. Poof... sleep hypnosis!
