Hi Folks,

I work as a golf mind coach, and am puzzled by how many of my top golfer clients have been labelled as dyslexic, and/or suffering from ADD.

I am writing a book about hypnosis and golf, and would love to add other comments in this section. Has anybody found the same high prevalence of dyslexia and ADD in their practice? Does the same high prevalence of dyslexia and ADD apply in other sports too?

I welcome your thoughts.

Hello Stephen,
I have not had many golf clients but now that you mention it, my first client was almost HD ADD : High Definition :-) ADD. His mind, his body and his attention was jumping all over the place and I wondered how he was going to qualify to go pro. On the fairway his mind settled down, but back in his life, his mind went 1,000 miles per hour.
Did some releasing with him, what I call hypnotic eft, and he slide right down underneath the monkey chatter... became calm, surprised at being so calm, and we followed the angry feeling that disturbs him during most of his waking hours. It only took 20 minutes of regression and releasing to find that he was angry and hurt that he was adopted, given up by his mother, and very angry with the woman/mother he ended up with.
I've found that ADD so called, is always some subconscious tension, pressure, emotional - unreleased energy that comes from unresolved experiences. The kids I work with that are labeled ADD - it's always the environment, specifically the parents. The parents either do not know how to allow the child to express his/her energy and intelligence, or worse, the parents are placing impossible expectations upon the child, which drives them to always, and I' mean always be seeking answers, solutions to their parent/s impossible demands.
With most elite athletes I've worked with, there is some childhood experiences where they feel that they are not good enough for their parent/s, and are seeking validation and love. Thus the extraordinary level of motivation: they have something to prove, being: I AM GOOD. Sports being a great way to validate one's self to a whole community, to validate and prove one's self to mom, dad and anyone else that will take notice.
The find line for me is to help resolve the nasty part of the subconscious programming while enhancing the motivating/excelling part to continue without restrictions/fear/and the false motivation of proving they are valid to win love.
As usual, I've written more than the question called for, soooo,
GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR BOOK!
Let us know when it is available, please :-)

Hi Randy,
What a helpful and thoughtful note. The bit about parental demands was especially interesting.
My book 'Play Magic Golf' is out now on Amazon. Now is the hardest bit - waiting for and partly dreading the reviews!
Good luck with your work, Steve

Regarding regression, source of inspiration is self-evident when one hungers for validation.

Question: Randy, do you find that upon release, i.e forgiveness, acceptance and gratitude for the recovered memory, that clients remain motivated to excel in sports or do they lose the cutting desire to win?
Doc,

So far the release of barriers and the clarity it brings has produced an increase of desire and what I'd call a much better reason to compete: for their self. They still love their sport and want to be the best for their own reasons, not to prove something out of former emptiness and insecurities. More focused and dedicated.

Your question shows insight. I did consider that we may be reconstructing the athlete's needs and motivations, therefore I ALWAYS want them to verbally (and written on the first session) to clearly, definitively state their goals.
I'm sure, someday in the future, an athlete will just honestly say: "I want out." I will be happy to help any athlete find the clarity to decide if that is best, or to rekindle her/his fire, once the wet blankets are released.

Randy
Based on this response, Randy, I surmise that the "original" goals are being retained by direct suggestion prior to the client's emergence. Therefore it's possible, if not likely, that the client would have otherwise "wanted out" upon "the releasing". Hypothetically, this appears to be the fundamental concern, unless you are able to report differently.
No I disagree.

No need to "try" to retain the goal by direct suggestion, the client is clearing her/his own way into greater focus and motivation by the success of releasing the fears, resistance and misperceptions, thus attaining greater clarity, connection and self-motivation. I utilize direct suggestion to compound every success within a session, progressively facilitating more and more pressure release and inner-awareness, and just as an explanation my sessions are much more "interactive" than most hypnotic practices. Based upon training I've received from schools and the reports and conversations with dozens and dozens of other hypnotists, my techniques are more intuitive than traditional hypnotism practices.

So when you ask about the original goals being retained by DS prior to emergence, that is not what I do or what I would want to do. I'm utilizing a much more fluid and interactive method, that allows the client to find his/her own truth as each session progresses. Thus, no need to try to retain the goals because the client either confirm them or discovers that the goals need to be replaced with better goals for the individual. If the goal is to continue and progress within their sport/event, the more clearing the more the goal is compounded, without trying to maintain it via external (me) support.
Sounds like you have a client centered approach and avoid leading. Well done!
