At the risk of being trampled I'll reveal that am a Sports Psychologist working mainly with hypnosis. I agree with Gary in that you should keep it simple. Assessing the anxiety levels of a sportsman/woman is a good idea and for that I use a SCAT test. Controlling anxiety is the key to many issues in sports as well as realistic goal setting and aspects such as "appropriate focusing." In order to work effectively with sports clients you need to know something about the psychology of sports performance. In general, once you have the basics you can be very helpful to your sports clients.
