As I was golfing today, it occurred to me that I could use negative hallucination to aid my game. Several of the holes at my favorite course are obscured by brush, gulleys, hills and other distractions. I realized that if I mentally eliminated these obstacles and focused on my target, I could hit the ball just as if I was on a clear, straight fairway.
It worked! My drives were consistent, despite the distractions.
Do you ever use this strategy to help athletes achieve success?

Too many hypnotists bring up attention on the devil and then try to patter it away, and then wonder why they stroke the ball into the water, sand or trees.
See the movie The Legend of Bagger Vance, where his focus is ONLY on where he wants the ball to go. Everything else disappears.
Permalink Reply by Hugh Cole on July 4, 2011 at 4:36am I once worked with a competitive shooter. I taught him to squeeze the trigger only when " you and the rifle and the target are one". It induced a state of extreme "hyperfocus" (OK Trance if you're a purist) that considerably aided his score. I think your negative hallucination theory is a doorway to that realm. I would be interested in knowing what might happen if you were to allow yourself to become one with the club and the flag to the exclusion of all else. Remember.. control of your club is a learned skill your body already knows how to do.
