Where do you focus your time to get the most powerful results for your clients?

What core hypnotic techniques does this group use with sporting clients? Do these techniques map over the majority of sports - such as goal setting, future pacing, relaxation, mental strength, focus, refining physical technique, getting in the zone etc. When you encounter a sport you are not familiar with, how do you identify the key skillsets required and prioritise which is most important to work on for your client's success.

A client wishing to improve his performance in pistol shooting has asked me to work with him to improve his consistency. Just like in golf, he has days where he is very consistent and successful but can have days when he is at the other extreme. My initial thoughts are to spend time with him reviewing in detail the differences between what happens on a good day v's the bad day using hypnosis and NLP techniques. I plan to then identify & anchor the 'good day' attributes and work to untangle the causes of the bad days.

For those of you have any experience in this area where do you focus your time to get the most powerful results?

I am an elite athlete trainer both for strength and hypnotherapist naturopath in sport motivation training people in every sport you can think of, also have been an Olympic rifle shooter myself. His personal life sounds as if it needs sorting first. Then teach him self hypnosis so he can practise whenever he feels like it, this can double his training time as the body thinks he is actually shooting. He will smell the gunpowder, see teh target, feel the trigger whilst under self hypnosis for that period of time to complete one course of fire. Next give him triggers and post hypnotic suggestion for competition nerves
Thanks Art
Your suggestion of focussing on client's personal life is one area I will pursue at the beginning of the session to identify what external factors are affecting his performance

Visualization is the key and teaching them self-hypnosis to use when they need it, Breathing, focusing and commitment to using these techniques for proven success. Great post!
Thanks Pattie
I spent most of the first session teaching him how to become totally relaxed and focussed whilst he was visualising the process leading to consistently hitting the target - got him to re-experience the state utilising a trigger word. I am now awaiting the results as he will be shooting this week

Hello Blane,

This was an interesting post. I would love to hear how your client did!

Thank you,

Lynne

Hi Lynne

Developing the clients ability to relax at the point of pulling the trigger to fire the pistol was the key to resolving his issue.  Anchoring his visualization of the perfect shot whilst relaxing and breathing correctly worked for him. What I didnt mention in the post was that this was a professional marksman who needed to pass an 'exam'. I only had one opportunity to work with him prior to the exam due to time restraints. He felt really good shooting at the range on the next day. Sat the exam and passed. I was so pleased for him (and relieved) as it was a high pressure situation for both of us to deal with
