Hello everyone, I have a question concerning instant inductions.  Lets say your on the street or in a mall. Rapport has already been established.  Is it necessary to explain what is going to happen to the volunteer before the instant induction is performed on them or is it best to just do it? If they know up front what is going to happen, how does that affect the outcome?  I have done these as a re-induction or as a deepener. but have not done it from the start. I have some that just wont go into trance, no matter what. I have watched many of the experts performing this induction, however not much is said on how the subject/volunteer is approached before the instant induction is done.

Thanks, Michael

Pretalk it's the start of mastering the trance work
and slowly you get the touch to feel and know your limits and talents
good luck to us all

Hopefully you are talking about hypnosis and not just trying to induce while talking about... sports or something. During the "pretalk" I just ask a few simple questions, " Have you ever been hypnotized before?" What do you think it will feel like?? How will you know you have been hypnotized?" All three presuppose hypnosis will occur and the last two require them to basically self induce to answer, so the person is ready when I ask for permission. Other than that, you need to be confident it will happen because if you don't believe, they won't believe.
Yes, more specifically hypnotherapy. I am spending to much time during the induction. I want to speed things up, and spend more quality time with my client. I think you hit the nail on the head. My confidence level concerning instant inductions is not where it should be. I know I can do it. I tend to avoid the instant inductions and stick with what I know. The Elman, and other variations of it. I have done instant inductions, but only after knowing that I had already hypnotized them using other methods. Perhaps I am putting to much emphasis on it. I guess I just need to do it and not worry about details as much.
thanks for youre comments

I think that my pretalk is fair, I have a good sucess rate most of the time. Its those analytical subjects that stump me. I get discouraged when I cant get them to go under. Over all I am sure that my cofidence is to blame, Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Sorry, I thought you were talking about in the Mall or on the street, not a hypnotherapy situation.

Confidence is key and you seem confident enough to use them as re inductions, so obviously you know they work....
maybe if you started looking at the pretalk as sort of a "soft" induction. I think of my pretalk as a mildly hypnotic induction, it opens the door, puts them in a mild trance and the rapid induction is really more of a rapid deepener. I guess that's why I like the "tense and relax" types of rapid inductions because they double as deepeners. I see the "instant" inductions as more of a confusion style, they work because you combine several of Tebbett's induction types... confusion, shock, off balance and eye fixation.

As long as you can explain how they work to yourself in a way that makes you truly believe they work, then you will have confidence that they will work.

Hi CD. Yes, I was refering to a street hypnosis scenario, I have never done that. I am nervous about instant inductions on the street. I would like to know how you and others approach people on the street and deliver the pre-talk before doing the instant induction. In therapy sessions I have no problem. I know they are already suggestible and if they arent deep enough I can use that technique, or other deepening methods. Thanks for your help. Michael

Setting the tone before performing a Speed-Trance induction, is quite often establishing within an individual's mind You are about to hypnotize, what will happen to them, and what the result is going to be. In other words, it begins to set up what is necessary to get the job done quickly and effectively. I have done this thousands of times from ice cold start, and what I say, "you will stare at my finger and your head will drop down. . . " that is more than likely what is going to happen. It also helps to realize, that in my mind before I use an induction that will take a fraction of the second, in my reality, they already hypnotize, and in a moment or two, their reality will catch up to mine.
I hope that helps.
Hi John, thanks for your reply. I had not thought of it quite like that. thanks, have a great day.
