So I have a simple question for you, what is your definition of a master hypnotist?

How would you know when you've got it?

I once heard Mark Cunningham define a master hypnotist as someone who can generate permanent identity change in a single session. While impressive, I would classify that as an expert, not a master. To be a master I would add those elements which apply to mastery of many disciplines:

- Be competent at all related skills, and an expert in one or more of them
- Use these skills naturally, without conscious attention to technique
- Apply the skills outside their normal area of use
- Be able to develop new techniques as needed
- Have instructed somebody from the level of rank beginner to competent practitioner
Hey Julias,

Great distinctions... definitely some food for thought.

Permanent identity change in a single session, now that you have changed :)

To answer the ? what is my definition of a master hpnotyist. I think of this person as someone who is always open to learn, as well as someone who is a good communicator, who gets to know the issue with a client, and have the knowledge to access the correct technique, and then have the confidence and finesse to comfortibly facilitate the the therapy.
p.s. a genuin enthusiasim, to boot !!!
Hi,

I am new to this forum and I think all of you are right .,.I believe it is someone with loads of experience and training. Fulltime practice and considered to be a expert in your field.

thanks
Pattie
i would say a master would have, someone come up to them and asked to be hypnotised without the hypnotist saying anything. It is not a requirment but if people that you don't know are asking you to hypnotise them then i would say that you are preety good if not a master. But then again i have been asked on the street to hypnotise someone, without saying a thing, and i am not even curtified yet. So it is all up to you realy on what you believe is a master hypnotist.
