To the freakin' Awesome Hypnotists of Utah-
I am curious whether any of you were around years ago when I fought the wars with Dr. Corey Hammond, when I was a consultant to the Utah Board of Regents and was successful in keeping the weekend certification courses out of Utah? We were "Awesome" and we made it possible for you to practice today.
. Call Betty Finnas in SLC for details. She was in the front line of our battles. Just to remind you (or inform you) of some history.
I was a campaigner against "Repressed Memories of Childhood Sexual Abuse" and was active in having Univ. of Utah discipline Prof. Corydon Hammond for his seminars to teach psychotherapists how to uncover memories of "Satanic Ritual Abuse". Dr, Hammond tried for a number of years to generate restrictive bills in Utah against "practice of hypnotherapy by laymen" (as he called them). In every case, members of the ACHE, under my direction, appeared on tv shows and in newspaper interviews to refute his allegations. As ACHE members in Utah testified before legislative committees, every proposed bill was defeated and finally, Dr. Hammond gave up the fight. ----Gil Boyne
I just moved to Utah about 8 months ago (from Southern California) so I wasn't here during that time, but I know of both your work and Dr. Hammond's. I did not know of the conflict but I am sincerely appreciative, that really is truly "AWESOME"! Thank you for fighting like this.
Dr. Hammond's "Greenbaum Speech" also got him in a bit of trouble too, I believe... Have you read it? And False Memory syndrome, as it is now called, destroyed the lives of many innocent people. For you standing up both against false memory syndrome like this and for the rights of hypnotists like myself, I am truly grateful sir.
