Hi Gayle: I don't have a particular pattern for abandonment, but NLP has many different methods for unpleasant early experiences, and I would guess that poor self-image would be a pretty big aspect: "I'm not worthy of attention" or some variant of that. My book Transforming Your Self might be useful to you.
