BIOFEEDBACK AS A FORM OF HYPNOTIC INDUCTION

I would like to know how many hypnotherapists out there have used a biofeedback device to enhance the hypnotic induction. I actually came to the conclusion that the reason why biofeedback has proven to be so effective is because in actuality biofeedback is a form of hypnotic induction according to the definition of hypnotic induction I present in my theory of hypnosis. I thought you might be interested in the brief article on this possibility I submitted to the journal of BFE, the European…See More

Interacting with the hypnotherapeutic community. Getting their comments on my articles.
Areas of Interest:
Theory of hypnosis. Healing of cancer via hypnosis. Reducing the school dropout problem via hypnosis. Increasing the effectiveness of hypnotic inductions. Self hypnosis. Stress Control. Biofeedback.
About Me: (please write something so we know you are a real person and not a spammer or robot)
I received my Ph.D. in psychology in 1969 from UCLA (Dissertation title: "Towards Understanding the Effectiveness of Hypnotherapy: A Combined Clinical, Theoretical and Experimental Approach").. My B.S. is from Caltech, 1955. I am very scientifically-oriented. My theory of hypnosis was published in Contemporary Hypnosis in 2001 (also can be found at my website, www.spccenter.com). I am the author of the much quoted article, "Hypnotherapy: A Reappraisal" first published in 1970 in the journal Psychotherapy: Theory, Research and Practice (also in the articles section of my website). The part that is often quoted is where I give the results of my review of the literature which shows that the average success rate for hypnotherapy is 93% after an average of 6 sessions, compared to an average success rate for psychoanalysis of 38% after an average of 600 sessions, and an average success rate of 72% for behavior therapy after 22 sessions. I am also the inventor of the Stress Control Biofeedback Card. And I am one of the first to propose that hypnosis can be a very effective tool in reviving the immune system in the healing of cancer. I wrote my first paper on this in 1961 over 50 years ago (my article on this also can be found at my website).
Hobbies:
Flying and chasing my "Boomerplane" (as in boomerang) what I call the exercise toy of the future. It shoots up from 100 to 200 feet in the air and glides down in a large circle. The object is to try to catch it before it hits the ground. Much more fun than the frisbee as you can't always predict where it is going to land. Great exercise for all ages. I have great fun competing with my 5 year old son in seeing who can catch it the most times (I will be 78 in two weeks)..

HYPNOSIS IN THE HEALING OF CANCER

Posted on September 18, 2011 at 12:54pm 15 Comments

I would like to know how many hypnotherapists out there have have attempted to use hypnosis in the healing of cancer, and how many have had success in doing so. When I wrote my first paper on this subject (Hypnosis as a Possible Means of Curing Cancer) over 50 years ago (June of 1961 to be exact) while I was working towards my Ph.D. in psychology at UCLA, I was pretty much ridiculed and labled as a quack. I even had one hypnotherapist after my presentation of this paper in 1973 at the 6th…

IS THERE FREE WILL? FINALLY AN ANSWER

Posted on September 14, 2011 at 3:01pm 5 Comments

by Alfred A. Barrios, PhD

The question of whether man does or does not have free will has been debated down through the centuries by some of the greatest minds but has never been fully answered. There are those, call them idealists, who say that of course we have free will; we can control our own destiny; we can choose between misery and happiness. Then there are the realists who point to all the miserable people in the world and ask did all these people freely choose to be…

I have read your 2 part 2007 paper commenting on your theory, which looks to be the same material. I'll let you know if I have any comments after I find your paper on PHS as higher order conditioning :)
