William Saffire's coinage of former US Vice President Spiro Agnew's saying seems to fit my friend, whom I will call "Jan" to a T. Ok, sure, she had an abusive childhood and was out on the street fending for herself by her late teens. But, she manage…

"I think between song lyrics, cartoons, and comic strips, I have all the insight into life that I need...lol." Amazing amounts of wisdom get conveyed in lyrics and cartoons--and amazing amounts of misinformation. All of it slips right past the crit…

LMAO. James, thanks for the correction and additional info. That is by far one of my favorite of all lines. Thank goodness I'm not the only one here that's old enough to remember Pogo. I wonder where you could find old comics like those? I guess I'…

Walt Kelly had a wonderful insight when he penned that line, which I think originally read, "We have met the enemy, and he is us." It's a variant of a message sent by a victorious captain in the War of 1812, who reported, "We have met the enemy, and…

The Pogo quote in the post title is, to me, the essence of why hypnosis is necessary. Can you think of one client situation where it does not apply? Don't we all want to "do the right thing," or at least want to want it? If we were able to "Just Do…

What a cool story and a wonderful experience. And that final message/challenge is spot on. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Bren, Yes, I fully understand and agrree with your point. Having came outmany times myself as (a gay man), and having counselled many people in similar situations, when I was training officer for a national gay counselling organisation, I k…

Dear Fable, Although common collectively, coming out experiences are novel to every person who experiences them, and no reassurances that the person's experience bears similarity to those of others diminishes the emotional impact every time it happ…

Bren, Thank you for taking that risk in the face of fear. And thank you for sharing the wisdom you pulled from the experience.. There's a message in here somewhere for hypnotists...who help us with the worlds inside our heads that often have tall,…

Hi Bren, In essence this is quite a common story. When people 'come out', whether it be as a Transexual, transvestite, gay, conservative.... or whatever. People are often much more accepting than hey feared. We project onto the situation, and char…

I'm not a practitioner...I'm more like one of the low-self-esteemers. As such, I agree that making statements about myself that I know are not true could heighten my sense of contrast with what I would like to be like, but am not. I've met some peo…

My poetry

I write poetry. Actually, it's more like something impregnates my mind with a "Slam, bam, thank you m'am"...and I'm left with this pregnant idea growing in my head that won't go away. Sometimes I ignore them for awhile, until kicking me from inside, I labor to get them out on paper.

Read my poetry, and you will get a peek into my inner self. But, be warned. Most of them stick to you, digging into your thoughts like Pacific Foxtail panicles that stick in your socks from a casual walk through a field. Every one of them are children of emotional encounters. Some were painful. Some were quite pleasurable. Know my children. Know me.

Nattering Nabobs of Negativity

William Saffire's coinage of former US Vice President Spiro Agnew's saying seems to fit my friend, whom I will call "Jan," to a T. Ok, sure, she had an abusive childhood and was out on the street fending for herself by her late teens. But, she managed to get herself through Vasser and later worked with high-level government contractors.

Sure, as a chief technology officer she has taken some pretty big career hits after the dot-coms became dot-gones. But, she still managed to buy a house in Texa… Continue

"We have met the enemy, and it is us." Pogo

The Pogo quote in the post title is, to me, the essence of why hypnosis is necessary. Can you think of one client situation where it does not apply? Don't we all want to "do the right thing," or at least want to want it? If we were able to "Just Do It" like the Nike slogan says, we wouldn't need hypnosis. We wouldn't smoke; we would lose weight; we wouldn't be restrained by irrational fears; we would pursue our life ambitions single-mindedly. But, there seems to be a committee at work in our hea… Continue

Surprised by Acceptance

As a transsexual, fear of what someone may think is sometimes worse than the reality. Sometimes a person you feared surprises you with acceptance. Such was the case recently with an office colleague. I still go to the regional office and work most of the time dressed as a man, even though many of my colleagues already know about my situation. However, I feared the reaction by one of my colleagues because I knew that her father had been a minister. You see, I generalized to her my past traumatic… Continue

Overcoming Mental Mountains

I'm 53 years old and started gender transition in earnest when I was 47. Some might ask, why did you wait so long if this was something you felt seriously about? Have you ever lived in a valley surrounded by mountains? Some people live their whole life in their little village and never go over the mountains. At an early age, about 7, I knew I really belonged in the female village, but back then, there wasn't even a road built between the villages through the mountains. A few explorers found thei… Continue
