Denis Niblett, PhD replied to London Victoria's discussion 'Is now a bad time to be considering a career in hypnotherapy' in the group UK
Hi there, and welcome!   First off, many hypnotherapists would like to have an average of three clients a day; few of us do, even after a number of years in practice. Secondly, where is hypnotherapy going with regards to regulation? Your guess…

Short answer: "Yes". Assuming training times from 9 – 5 with an hour for lunch, participants will be getting 7 hours training each day. That works out at about 42 hours. For ease of calculation let’s call that 40 hours. With a…

Denis Niblett, PhD replied to Tamara's discussion 'death of hypnotherapy in a saturated market?' in the group UK
Steps are already being taken to bring greater regulation into the field of hypnotherapy. The Hypnotherapy Regulatory Forum has been established and is working hard to do just that. They already have a code of ethics which was agreed upon by all…

Denis Niblett, PhD replied to Tamara's discussion 'Using Social Networking as a Marketing Tool' in the group UK
I find it highly unlikely that anyone looking for a solution to a problem they have will turn to one of the social networking sites for help. What will make a chronic depressive think "I know, I'll look on Facebook?" In the same way,…

Teaching classes has been the most effective way to attract clients. In fact, I have built my practice by teaching classes and by talking about my classes to anyone who would listen. I've become an expert on fitting into the conversation…

Denis Niblett, PhD replied to Michael Jackson Burney's discussion 'Logging Session Notes- How Do You Do It?'
Hi Michael, I use attack this one from two directions: computer and filing system. My clients are required to complete and return a questionnaire created as a form with Microsoft Word. This is normally emailed to them and returned in the same way.…

With Google you can place ads that will run in your city only and this might be a help. In my area the local newspaper (over 200,000 circulation) had me mentioned in a front page article twice within 6 months. Interesting enough is that not a one of…

PS: I can strongly recommend Stephen Harold's "101 marketing tips for complementary therapists" as being an excellent resource. Aside from internet-based stuff I run a lot of free talks, nominal-fee workshops etc, giving out business…

Hi Denis, Dunno if I am the colleague who told you I get good results on Google for "hypotherapists (locality)", but let me answer that point anyhow... ;-) Manchester is a big town; my website generates around 12 - 15 enquiries a week,…

Hi Denis, I've been lucky and have 2 doctors and 1 RN in my karate dojo. Once they witnessed a few of my hypnosis skills, they started referring patients for appropriate issues. When you consider that most doctor's waiting lists are…

Spreading the word

I am very keen to know how my colleagues “spread the word” with regards to hypnotherapy.Like many others, when I started up in practice I wasted a great deal of money on advertising. No matter where I announced my services, nobody was interested. Then I put myself in the place of a prospective client and all became clear. If I have a sore back and think a back massage would help, then I know to seek out a masseuse. If I think that foot reflex massage would help I look for a reflexologist. If my…See More

Denis Niblett, PhD replied to Michael Jackson Burney's discussion 'Best Post Hypnotic Suggestion For Quicker 2nd Session Induction'
Whilst I agree with all the previous comments, I believe we may be missing an important point. Why do you want quicker inductions for the "2nd, and subsequent, sessions"? If your clients are paying the full fee for a session lasting as…

In the UK? Things are different here, with the 1952 hypnotism act governing stage hypnosis and no regulation at all on therapeutic approaches maybe we can moan about our stuff and be here to help our overseas friends if they want to come here.
