I attended dabney's workshop a few years back in New [rleans at the kind invitation of my friend and her husband.
As a water person myself I find the thought of aqua therapy intriging. I have often told my husband if I ever have a stroke "rehab" me by dumping me in the deep end. I'll instictively function or drown. Both are solutions.the one the better. But the last place they take a new stroke is to the pool. Pity.
My PT guy (broken ankle business this winter) have talked about stroke and hypnosis. He has access to Gold's facility with the extra big water treadmill; I would love to see him work with strokes earlier in their rehab. But that is probably too innovative for this town. Insrance etc.
Love the book "the brain that changes itself". Very up lifting. PS: adapted some of Ramashadran's Mirror therapy to my own ankle rehab.
Truly water is hypnotic for me. I can simply bob vertically and then sink rythmically up and down to the point it "Is trance like"l
How would one find your paper. Friends with the hospital librarian I might be able to request it.
I was an acute rehab nurse. Have seen a few articles about stroke & hypnosis but they were slim on the details. The "medical" community in Bloomington }llinois is pretty conservative. And insurance in }llinois is even more so. So it has been a slow slow process here. As a RN I have had to be very careful to not step on MD toes & the Pain clinics It might be easier if I either were more highly credentialed.(NP/Phd /MD) or have no licensure at all so I would not worry about "scope of practice"issues. Any time I almost get a doc interested they want to know how can a RN BSN get paid. This is a very insurance conscious town ( headquarters for State Farm).
