Well put, Chris. I hear again and again and again and again "All you need is a light trance to create real and lasting change!" But sadly, the proponents of that theory are typically only able to create a light trance on a consistent…

Mike Ellner - Ever watch a martial artist punch through a board? He envisions his fist landing way behind the target, not on the target. The ones who visualize hitting the target are the ones who don't break the board. Why would any…

Hi Michael, Thanks for your posting. I'm not saying that "light states of trance are not real hypnotic states". In order to put most people into hypnosis, you have to first deal with their existing trance... : ) Nevertheless,…

I'm not really sure what kind of trance state I am usually in. I know my therapist says I go deeper than she expected and more easily than most. I know that I often lose track of time and don't always remember what was said. I always feel…

Mike - here's one I can add (learned from a particularly good trainer) Failure to incorporate "distractions" into the trance experience instead of letting them get in your way and interfere with your work.

Good one, John. Although the more a client speaks in light trance, the greater the likelihood of moving toward a hypnoidal and therefore less effective trance. The less we activate the Broca speech center in light trance, the more trans-hemispheric…

Detraumatize First!

Posted on August 24, 2010 at 3:00pm 14 Comments

Over the last two decades as a trainer and clinician, it's become incumbent for me to design a paradigm to create a logical, universal approach to treatment for a wide variety of issues, from anxieties and depression, to public speaking and sports performance. That's why I always tell my students: Detraumatize first. Whatever else you have in mind, whatever you are planning to anchor, suggest,… Continue
