SELF HYPNOSIS
This is a favorite subject of mine. I‘ve done more study on this particular idea than any other in the realm of hypnosis. I’ve found the idea of self-hypnosis has been well documented throughout history, and there are few people that claim to have had this ability. It is not for me to argue their claim, but I must point out the implications of the difficult process.

I believe self-hypnosis is somewhat of a myth. The difficulty to achieved self-hypnosis by ones self is staggering. Normally, it can only be achieve with the help of a very good practitioner. The reason I say self-hypnosis is a myth is because of the difficulty one has in attempting to communicate with their sub-conscious mind when using their conscious mind. (It may be of some interest to note that very few psychologists recognize the term sub-conscious mind, but only recognized the term unconscious mind. Although for all practical purpose, there is a hugh difference in these two.)

I refer you to the “Handbook of Self-Hypnosis” written by Harry Arons, published in 1959. In it he states: “As regards the trance state itself, it is true it is the same to all intents and purpose whether it is induced by an outside agent (a hypnotist) or by oneself. The differences that do exist are encountered in the process of induction: it is comparatively difficult to hypnotize oneself without outside help: other differences become apparent in administration: it is comparatively difficult for the self-hypnotize person to direct himself in the desired channels.”

Mr. Arons goes on to distinguish between the different terms used in defining self-hypnosis, autohypnosis and autosuggestion. These terms require defining so as to have an understanding of their use. (These terms are common among most other authors and in the industry.) “When we speak of autohypnosis or self-hypnosis, we refer to the actual trance state in which the usual hypnotic phenomena are manifested and through which definite post-hypnotic responses can be produced. When we speak of autosuggestion or Coueism, (http://www.jstor.org/pss/25112784), we mean conscious suggestion which the subject gives himself during normal waking state, with the intention and hope that the suggestion will in due course of time and with sufficient repetition seep into the subconscious sphere and thereafter be realized.”

Achieving trance state by ones self through self-hypnosis or autohypnosis is difficult to say the least, and some would propose impossible. The process of self-hypnosis can be realized much more easily and successfully through the direction of a competent professional hypnotist.

Again, another author, Milton H. Erickson writes about autohypnosis (self-hypnosis) in Chapter 4, Autohypnotic Experiences of Milton H. Erickson in his famous work “The Nature of Hypnosis and Suggestion” edited by Ernrst L. Rossi. In this chapter Erickson is telling about his experiences with autohypnosis: “(There is) No way you can consciously instruct the unconscious.” This being said, you may see why I have such a hard time believing people can attain the state of trance through self-hypnosis without the aid of a qualified hypnotist".
About Me:
I’ve completed a course in Counseling and Therapy and I find it invaluable.
My study of Psychology continues indefinitely. To that end I've just completed another Psychology course at Chemeketa Comm. College.
Last summer (2010) I attended a festival in Eugene Oregon known as the Oregon Country Fair. It changed my life completely. I had thought I would go as a performer, so I created the character known as Professor Laffmoore. It turns out I did the right thing.
This summer (2011) I’ve attended 8 festivals as Professor Laffmoore and given away over 400 balloons to the children. I attempt to brighten the lives of the children by giving a free balloon to each of them I see at the festival.
You can view my current festival schedule at the web site I’ve listed.
And by the way, I also do some street hypnosis while I’m entertaining the families.
Hobbies:
I enjoy photography immensely.
Teaching comes easily to me. I teach regularly for Chemeketa Community College in Salem, Oregon

lol, You couldn't have possibly known that my past was tattooing. I specialized in permanent cosmetics and did smaller tattoo's for mostly women who wanted a very professional office. I never had tattoo graphics all over my walls. (Nor do I have them all over myself) I always custom designed every tat ever given, unless they brought their own in. I am currently not open to public for tattooing anymore. I only work now by referral. I did not enjoy the type of clients that this field attracted either. I would get calls at 3am by drunks. 75% were no shows if i did book the general public for a regular tattoo. I could really tell you the low parts of being in that field.

The hypnosis field is much more respectable, reliable and over all less stress. So glad I changed my career.
Thanks again for your notes, and adding me to your "friend" list. lol

Jill
