A beautiful post.

And there I was thinking that it was the Vatican which was in charge of RC doctrine! (Which as Graham said, issued that supporting statement for therapeutic use).

Ian, Do you practice hypnotherapy, or just hypnosis? Are you commenting from a position of experience, or from a position of believing it to be possible? What is theoretically possible is rarely appropriate for the practitioner or the client (would…

Nicely put, Marc. There is a point about giving the client what they ask for, and providing what they expect. Some are happy with the outcomes of benefit after their session, whether it takes 10 minutes (or less) or an hour (or more). Others have a…

Oh, and P.S. is this person seeing 50 clients every week, or is it boom and bust with them? I see 27 patients almost every week, and I find this number sustainable. I wouldn't like to do many more than this, and my admin requirements wouldn't be po…

What are you looking for on this site?
Friendship, networking, sharing of ideas, mutual support. Meeting those with a similar perspective to my own, and being challenged by those with different ideas.
Areas of Specialty:
I set up and now run an IBS service, working with other health care professionals to give patients the best experience possible (well, that's the aim, anyway!).
I mentor students of hypnotherapy, and supervise their early practice in order to ensure that the level of practice is sufficiently high, and to provide help, guidance and support to the next generation.
About Me:
I'm an experienced intensive care, colorectal, upper GI and vascular surgical nurse who wanted a change in direction.

Now I've got it! I love nursing, I love making a real difference to peoples' lives by combining my hypnotherapy skills and my nursing ones. My nursing background informs my hypnosis (and gives me credibility in medical circles...they seem to like my ability to work beepy machines), and my hypnotherapy background makes me an interesting nurse to work with!
Hobbies:
Spending quality time with my wonderful husband and bunnies, photography, gardening, walking, chatting...

OUCH!

When I first started this hypnotherapy lark, I would go to my 'day' job in intensive care, and actually feel people's pain. Their emotional distress became physically palpable to me. I would have to intentionally mentally switch off my 'joining the client' and put my detached, nursing hat back on.

As these days, I am full time in hypnotherapy, I am feeling more and more.

Does anyone else have this physical connection to their client's emotional state?

Safety in Numbers

When I was little, I was rubbish at maths. I used to copy from the kid next to me in class.Except for money, and drug calculations, I still have a bit of a mental block about maths.

Today, I finally appreciated how numbers can make you feel!

I've been doing data entry on my patients' questionnaires in order to feed back to the commissioners and board, and to the doctors who refer these patients to my service. And having crunched those numbers, I can see in an unb

Apparently, I'm Immoral!

That person's comments have really made me quite sad. How someone can put their own needs for money over the needs of the person who is afflicted by IBS.

The most beautiful thing about the NHS is that people can receive thousands of pounds of treatment/care without paying any more into the system than they would have if they'd required no care at all.

So many of the people I see in my job simply couldn't afford to pay for what the NHS is providing them with; free

Frowning Today: It's NOT An Upside Down Smile!

Today, I got some new referrals for my clinic. Interesting, challenging. Yay! Or so I thought.

Then came a comment from a dr who didn't want to do the blood tests as recommended (not entirely sure why).

And then came the information that another dr wanted to know why 'we' had employed a hypnotherapist (note scorn), and not a district nurse.

The fun response is because DNs don't know anything about hypnosis as a rule. The real re… Continue

Rock On: It Just Keeps Getting Better... Better Everyday! (All sing along!)

Well, what a wonderful time it is!
One of my patients got the job I future paced them through the interview of (after them being convinced they'd not get it)!
Another said my treatment was 'absolutely brilliant'.
Someone else has reduced their medication down to a third of what they were on before they first saw me.

Oh, and my headrest arrived last Thursday, the engineers came to install the lightswitch today, and, most excitingly, my name is now on the clinic room door!… Continue
