- I've been a teacher of clinical hypnotherapy for over 20 years.
I've been in clinical practice for more than 30 years and have over 30,000 hours of practice experience. I trained in several psychological therapies and specialized in hypnotherapy and had over 3,500 hours of training with the renowned hypnotherapist and trainer Gil Boyne.
I've been a hypnotherapy educator to a wide variety of groups including tutoring the first official training in hypnotherapy in the National Health Service in 1992, teaching at the Royal College of Nursing in London.
I'm an approved hypnotherapy instructor for the American Council of Hypnotist Examiners and have taught hypnosis internationally including as teaching assistant to Gil Boyne
I've taught in higher education for over 15 years lecturing in medical psychology, medical neuroscience and other subjects in medical schools. I've worked in experimental neuroanatomy and carried out research in medical science specialising in neuroendocrinology.
I organised the first conference of heads and delegates of hypnotherapy schools and registers in 1986 to initiate standards-setting and self-regulation in the field of hypnotherapy in the UK.
I've been deeply involved in the development of the profession of clinical hypnotherapy in the UK. My contribution to the profession was formally recognized in 2004 by an award from a national confederation of Hypnotherapists.
I've been frequently quoted in the media and elsewhere as an authoritative source of information on clinical hypnosis.
I've acted as an expert witness and as an advisor to the police in legal cases involving hypnosis.
I've made more than 20 television appearances as an expert in hypnotherapy with several programmes focused on his use of hypnotherapy as an anesthetic in invasive surgeries.
My clinical work was first filmed over 12 years ago and since then has been reported many times in the media, including a major BBC television series, "Mysteries", with Carol Vorderman in 1997 and the first live broadcast of “Hypnosurgery”. This was screened on Channel 4's digital channel, More4, with myself using hypnosis as a sole anaesthetic while surgery was performed on a patient in April 2006.
Some of my media appearances include TV and radio interviews on BBC’s “This Morning” and BBC World Service. Other television programmes I have contributed to and appeared on include “The Mind Benders” (1990), an Equinox TV investigation into the field of mind enhancement and subliminal techniques and “Fair Game” (1996), a programme presented by Greg Dyke investigating uses and abuses of hypnosis in sport.
I am the clinical author of the popular book “Secrets of Hypnotherapy” (Pub. Dorling Kindersley).
