James Hazlerig replied to Jennifer Sutka's discussion 'Can you be a successful hypnotist without NLP?'
I knew an "energy healer" who complained that he'd had to help a lot of people who were screwed up by their hypnotists. I said, "Of course. The 95% we help don't have any reason to go to you." It's important to…

Don, While I've no doubt that your statements here are mostly true--Yapko cites Bandler and discusses NLP in favorable terms in Trancework, 4th ed. So it's not entirely accurate to say there are no references in textbooks by academic…

Offer to give the therapists a free taster of your work, and you then have the opportunity to get talking to them. Ask for their business cards and of course give them yours, when they are impressed with your wonderful stress reducing sessions or…

Amy Marsh replied to James Hazlerig's discussion 'Approaching Psychiatrists and Counselors in my Building'
This is a great thread. I learned a lot reading along. I've also been wondering how to let people in my new, very part-time building know about me (and how to find out about them!). Thank you!

*sigh* Had to Hypnotize Bellydancers. Again . . .

Posted on January 6, 2012 at 8:16pm 8 Comments

So I just got back from the Third Coast Tribal Bellydance Convention, where I once again taught my "Dance Like a Goddess" workshop to a sold out room.

You know the workshop went well if afterwards, a participant you've never met before walks up and says, "That was incredible. Can I give you a hug?"

It was also great running into students from past years who talked about how much they are still using the self-hypnosis tools you taught them.

Mental Rehearsal and Sherlock Holmes

Posted on December 21, 2011 at 10:25am 2 Comments

Yesterday, my wife and I took a break to go see the new Sherlock Holmes movie. It is essentially "action porn," a very enjoyable diversion.

One aspect of it I found intriguing from a professional standpoint. Whenever confronted with a tough situation, the hero visualizes how to get out of it, talking himself through a complex web of cause-and-effect, analogous to planning a chess strategy. While this may seem like a highly logical process, his intuition clearly plays a large…

I recently posted pictures of my new office on facebook. There's still more decorating to do, and I'm hoping to acquire a bit more furniture, but it's coming together.

Hi James,

See you in Janurary.

I'm reminded of an old quote my great, great, great, grand daddy used to remind me,

"The unconscious mind is not a repository for problems, but rather a reservoir of strength," (isn't that just one of those quotes you wished you had made up?), I plan on tapping that reservoir extensively in Janurary, and Feb., March, etc.

Thanks for the friendship.

Steve

James, you are so generous with your stage advice and descriptions.  Even though I have no intentions of doing stage hypnosis, it's fun to live a little of that life through people like you.  Your pirate code was such a cool idea.
