Having thought more about this James I consider my 'pre' talk, I hate that term because it makes it sound like this is something you do 'before' you begin entertaining and enthralling your audience, and the 'tests' to be my first routines. And as m…

Is the induction only when your audience think you have hypnotised or the point where the somnambulists have decided to come on stage?

That IS awesome, James. And even the fact that a dream with a lawyer doesn't turn into a nightmare is proof positive of your subconscious' desire of positive gain for you!

The term is "cognitive dissonance," Rachel. Dissonance. And you are accusing those experiencing it of being "hypocrites," not hypercrits. Normally, I don't correct spelling unless I'm getting paid, but let's all be wary of "cheapening the perceptio…

A Gift from My Dream Self

A few weeks ago, someone mentioned the book Endless Referrals in a post here on HT--I'm sorry that I don't recall who it was. Now, I'll be the first to admit that I have a lot to learn about marketing, so I decided to check out this book.

Anyway, I got a copy and started reading it yesterday. The first part explains how to approach and talk to people, especially at networking functions, but really anywhere. In general, the idea is to make the conversation about them,

Review of The Phone Book on my blog

In my ongoing quest to provide honest assessments of hypnosis-related material, I've posted a new review to my Real Hypnosis Reviews Blog:

My thanks to Michael Ellner, btw, for recommending The Phone Book to me.

Utilizing Laughter

Yesterday I was doing hypnosis demonstrations at a local festival, and one fifteen-year-old girl who sat down in my chair was somewhat giggly. (I'd checked with her parents to make sure they were all right with their daughter being hypnotized.) Anyway, she warned me that she was "goofy" and might chuckle a lot.

So I simply said, "That's fine. Laughter is great way to relax and feel better. It helps you let go of stress now and releases endorphins that help you feel better an

A Gift in Honor of HT's Third Year

So, I started the ball rolling on this a few weeks ago, when Scott announced a season of general gift-giving in honor of Hypnothoughts' third anniversary--but because of various commitments and the curious conditions of international shipping, I was only able to get an item in the mail yesterday. Since the present is now in the hands of the postal service, I feel okay about blogging on this subject.

For those who don't recall, Scott's announcement (which I can't seem to loca

Cameras are Never There When You Need Them, Are They?

Okay, the title probably isn't fair. But I really wish someone had been filming me last Saturday night.

My sister had a big party to celebrate her 25th wedding anniversary, and of course she asked me to serenade her with my fiddle. My nineteen-year-old niece and all of her friends were really getting into the music, especially when I was able to bust out a theme from Lord of the Rings. (See, Richard, you miss out on impressing young women by not liking that kind of movie!)

I wish I can't seem to find the site again, I'd hang it on the wall in a heartbeat though, I am still looking for it though so if I stumble across it again I'll port you a link :)
(that or take up making clocks lol who knows it might be a good niche market for hypnotists)

Hi James,
Yep you are so right on all. RTC could be something to hold up my sleeve and the movie theatre dissasociation is worthwhile as well. Thanks so much for your input.

Hi James,
Somewhere deep in the canyons of my mind I have a memory of you leaving a post about a client who had a fear of going over bridges. Is that so or was it someone else? If it was you can you either point me to the post or talk me through what you did to help your client have successful change.

cheers ... Brett

Faster Alan. In my opinion this induction is Only useful in a stage or demonstration situation and as such it's simply more dramatic if you do it with a lot more energy! ;-)

Sadly to a point you are right Richard. You can be a so-so un-entertaining stage hypnotist and draw people. However although that's great in a tourist town say like Vegas where it will be 12 months or more before people return, in a more home town s…
