Joining Toastmasters

I taught a hypno-meditation class on Tuesday night. Afterwards I felt like I really needed some public speaking skills. I know it is endearing to talk in a several sentence sequence, then double back and around and eventually come to the original topic if I'm lucky. But if people are coming to me to calm their minds, my manner of conveying information no doubt leaves them a little off balance.
So I google Toastmasters. Find the closest meeting. Commit to going. Immediately start to imagine what it will be like. I know that my vision will not be true but I go ahead anyway and see a room full of men in dark suits, at least 100 of them. They all have looks of seriousness. What will their topics be? Economics, nuclear physics, excel spreadsheets, Pythagorean theory? Smugly, I know Pythagorean theory. I'm sure I will not know any of their other business men in dark suit topics. What if they call on me? What should I wear? Since there's no way to fit in, I'll wear my jeans and red cowboy boots. And nothing says don't call on me like my chartreuse jacket.
I go to the meeting and low and behold, half are in jeans, half are women. All are super nice. The meeting was very interesting. They have this one part called Table Topics where you get up and talk about a topic for a minute and half with no preparation. Here it is: the Big Fear of getting called on. I was a guest so I was safe!
But it turns out to be more of a game where you stand up and say three things about yourself, one of which is not true. The audience guesses which one is not true and then you go on to talk about one of the things you listed about yourself for a minute and a half.
So even though I had guest status, I raised my hand to participate. I raised my hand to go first. Who'd a thought?
They guessed the untrue thing because I'm a bad liar. Then I started to talk about how I rode my Yamaha 400 from Salt Lake City to Vail because I was so angry and fed up with my boyfriend at the time that I went to Vail to see a cuter boy. Two sentences into this I slightly panic that there is no way I can speak for one and a half minutes on this topic. I shocked myself by dramatizing the story of boy #1 and made it easily to one and a half minutes.
And the guess what????? At the end they voted on best Table Talk speaker and I WON!
I won a white ribbon!!!
So I highly recommend Toastmasters because I've already increased my impromtu speaking skills by 100% I will be taping this ribbon to my forehead to prove it!

Internal Change

Posted on December 12, 2008 at 8:10am 0 Comments

When I read about hypnosis or meditation or consciousness, I always like the personal stories the best. Real changes, the big changes that happen for people. Even though change is continual in our external world, it seems that most internal change is slow going process. Whether it's fast (I love those stories the best, touched by the magic wand, the big Aha!) or slow, I love the stories of internal change.

I hesitate to write about the change that hypnosis can bring because it is so… Continue

Magazine Article

I wrote this for a magazine whose editor requested that I write about my journey. Thought I would share it here as well.

If I think back to only one year ago, really 10 months ago the dream of becoming a hypnotist wasn’t

Even a thought, idea, or zygote. It came from a series of events and even some

Simultaneous events, all intersecting into a very unlikely direction in my life.

It’s all very long so I’ll just randomly list them:

Thanks for the generosity

I'm so excited about this website.

Thank you to all who put in a ton of time to create it and to all who post so generously. I'm so grateful for the folks who have taken the time write their stories, share a piece of their heart.

The quality of websites that I have explored is astounding. Up until finding this site, most websites I found through google for hypnotists were boring/generic/no educational component. People really need to know that hypnosis is not just about… Continue

Hi Ladies,

I'm sending this blanket message to those who are responding to my friend requests. If you know of other hypnotists interested in the work I do. Please pass this message on to them.

If you go to my website www.yoursecretwishes.com and go to my Online Seminar page, you'll see that Wednesday nights at 9pm Eastern time I do a FREE online seminar. Please join my group to discuss all things hypnosis.

Also see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CiKe2kiFbkg

and listen to this podcast http://www.clickcaster.com/channel/item/hypnosis-episode-5-talk-to-someone-in-coma

For the online seminar, you must become hypnoresearcher's friend first by going to www.Stickam.com. Open up a free account there and become my friend.

I'm going to start a forum here on HypnoThoughts. Please join that and we can chat there. I will call it Brain Fitness Research. If you are going to the NGH convention, please come to my Friday seminar and workshop. The seminar is on getting what you want from life and the workshop is for helping people grieving who have loved ones who've passed over.

In the workshop participants will learn how to connect with their deceased loved ones. We actually do it in the workshop. Very experiential.

Chat with you soon.
Susan

See you there!
Susan
