Betito,   "being scammed" is not in any way shape or form, the norm, here, as there are significant numbers of people who have not had the experience you had.  It sounds like an easy misunderstanding compounded by email…

Jonathan --
I really want to get to know your work -- and you. I will respond to your comment on the NLP Yahoo group -- just haven't had the time.
Aren't you giving a workshop in Baltimore soon?
Where exactly do you live?
Better to respond to my email -- don@hypnosissilverspring.com -- than here, since I get on Hypnothoughts only sporadically.

Hi Jonathan,

Wow that's some intense research! I graduated in 2005. Did my undergrad there and then moved back to Philly for grad school in '05.

Hi Antonio,
In my opinion, not so much. To learn to match/mirror other people's voices... if you MUST do it on your own... is to match/mirror other people's voices! That's the second best way to do it, and it's a far cry from the best way. And there really is no useful third way.

The best, of course, comes from spending time in a seminar room with skilled trainers with amazing ears (I'm certainly not the only one, though there are many popular trainers I wouldn't ever include on my personal short list) -- where LOTS of exercises are intentionally run for that specific purpose, with thorough trainer supervision, including having observers/listeners give you immediate real-time feedback about distinctions you're not yet hearing when you're trying to match someone else's voice.

Increasingly these days it seems people are trying to "do it on their own" and what that's causing of course is hordes of people who have a bare shadow of the skills they've read about. It's disappointing.

As for the metronome, that makes you more rhythmically compelling -- and that's all about leading. Matching nd mirroring is all about pacing. Both useful skills -- for verrrry different purposes.

Jonathan, I was reading about some of your tips for using a metronome to develop a more "hypnotic" voice. This got me to thinking - would using a kind of metronome that would at times randomly change the the beat pattern be helpful in learning how to match/mirror someones voice?

Thanks for getting back to me, I appreciate it. Unfortunately, I'm the only one of my friends that is into NLP and hypnosis. They are into sports and Warcraft (I don't know why, but they probably say the same about me and hypnosis, LOL). Anyway, if I come across some people from Pitt on here I will defintely send them your way. I would be very interested in meeting you sometime, even if just for some coffee or a tour of Pittsburgh. I am trying to find people here in the 'Burgh to practice and learn with, and I am looking for a mentor. If you'd be interested in meeting when you have some free time please get back to me because this is all fairly new to me and I'm eager to learn.

Thanks again, Ryan

My "Friends" roster is becoming increasingly illustrious. Thank you!

Years and years ago, I studied handwriting analysis; it is fascinating. Nightwalking ... an interesting method of inducing altered/heightened consciousness, very interesting.
