I have had a couple of clients say they were considering using an electronic cigarette before our sessions, and asked if that was a bad idea.  I use a completely stop smoking HT approach, not…Continue

Hi.  I am not sure where to put this question.  I have a client who said his insurance company claimed he could use his HSA card for hypnotherapy (for smoking cessation).  I have tried to get my…Continue

Richard posted some great posts on some of the latest memory research in the discussion on regression therapy. You might want to check it out. The myth of accuracy in memory is persistent... -Melissa

The accuracy of anyone's memory, even a memory champion is just an interpretation of what a person "thinks" happened. Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi (I wish I could pronounce that!) in the book Flow says that at any one time we are…

Using hypnosis for the purpose of refreshing memory of a past event may be helpful in reconstructing what occurred.  However, it is imperative that appropriate memory retrieval techniques be used after the person is in hypnosis.  There are…

Have a look at this link here: http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2010/07/100728144349.htm where you can read about a research they did on electronic cigarettes.    stopping cigarettes is about having NO craving and NO withdrawal…

My motivation for explaining to clients that they will not need anything additional is for the simple fact that James mentioned. The person who walks into my office for a hypnosis session to quit smoking with a patch on his or her arm is already…

I'm all for working within a client's belief system, if they believe adjunctive assistance will help them, then why fight it, work with it to reinforce their ability to effect change.

Hey Lisa,   Yes, a lot of people don't realise that an electronic cig can just be for the habit of sucking on a white stick and can be without nicotine.   I feel that if a client has a very strong habit of wanting to put something to…

I never encourage my clients to use NRT or pharmaceuticals, but it they want to use them, I don't refuse to work those clients. I always tell them I believe in stacking the deck in our favor.   The only downside is that if your client uses…

I agree with Kelley, James and Walter-   I often ask clients what is the best way to reach their goals and I respect and act on what they tell me -- That said the goal is to help the client find healthy, creative ways to make the unwanted habit…

I would stress to the client that it will not be needed. However, isn’t the goal of the client (and you as the hypnotist) that they quit smoking? I would not tell a weight loss client to stay away from carrot sticks simply because I…

Hello Laura
I agree it is hard to know in advance how many sessions any client might need, however I do respond to clients when we start (with the exception of the stop smoking) that we will probably meet wbetween three and five times depending on their issues. I find this offers flexibity and the chance to review. I myself have only been in practice since January this year so I am still working on my answer.
