Here is a little technique I will share with you that is an instant crowd pleaser, and works well with a crowd. Since you don't have time to get volunteers and do anything, you will be providing the whole audience with a good mood.

The patter is as follows:

Most folks come to places like this to have a good time, are there any folks like that here tonight? Hold the mike to the crowd and wait for the "Yeah!"

I've found that in order to have a good time, you need to be in a good mood first, would anyone like to be in a better mood?

Play the audience... get the response.

For those who said yes...it just follow my instructions, for those who don't want to feel better, don't.

Here we go.

First, I need you to go back in your memory and find what I like to call a "yippie" moment. This is a time when you actually felt like you want to feel right now. Like when you got your first car, your team won, you got that job, got the big raise, etc. and you clenched your fist and said that emphatic "YESssss!" This is what we are going to use to compare your good mood to. So go back in your memory and raise your right hand when you have it and keep it up.

(wait 5 seconds for it).

Great, now I would like you to visualize it with your mind's eye, a dial on the wall, with what looks like a clock face with scale of 1 - 10 on it. The arrow on it should be pointing to 1. This is your mood meter. Raise your other hand when you have this.
(wait 5 sec for it)
Thats excellent. Now in a moment, I'm going to ask you to move that arrow from a 1 to a 2. and clap your hands together when you do, you will immediately notice your mood improve.

Are you ready?

Lets move it to two...NOW. (clap).

Notice the improvement? (most will grudgingly admit "yeah..a little") Good,

then lets just move it some more.

Move to 3 .. NOW (clap), Move to 4..NOW (clap). Move to 5 NOW (clap) Move to 6 NOW (clap). Lets stop right here because I don't want you to start looking for your cheerleader outfits..hehehe.

"How do you feel now? "Yeah!"
