Steph replied to John Cleesattel's discussion 'Does something that is free have value?'
Well, "free" is surely sometimes interpreted by some of the people some of the time as having no value. ... you can come unstuck with friends too ... payment seems to give some sort of structure to expectations on both sides.

Hi Leo, An interesting question. In some types of meditiaton, the mantra, a ‘meaningless’ sound is given to fix the attention of the conscious mind, so that the person does not engage with the meaning and create a resistance to the…

Metaphor construction

My first trial at metaphore building was someone who had looked after her mom for many years, and now feels she could’v done more. She loves horses …A horse is a wonderful creature, she is tall and strong and carries so many burdens on her broad back, on her broad shoulders. She never complains but she feels so much more lighter without those burdens.Horses seem resigned to their fate, but I’m sure you now they would rather roam free over the hillsides without a care. That’s their original…See More

In parts its rather like one of the Buddhist prayers of compassion for the deceased. It has authenticity. I like it very much.

Anyone got any ideas for a sript incorporating some of Albert Ellis's ideas? He grouped thinking errors under these main headings … 1. ignoring the positive, 2. exaggerating the negative, and 3. overgeneralizing.

Psychological approaches to the consultation

Traditional Psychodynamic Psychoanalysts aimed to foster a transference relationship, in which the clients were encouraged to project their feelings onto the therapist who tried to remain impartial and almost anonymous. Negative feelings about past relationships were aired in this manner, sometimes using free association to discharge memories, and the therapist subsequently gave his interpretation. In the post Freudian, Jungian era the attention was more of a therapeutic alliance, with the…See More

Gil Boyne @ www.hypnotism.org.uk says abreaction is ...

The Abreaction is one of a series of processes used in "'Transforming Therapy"'. The first step is an intensive intake interview ( minimum one hour) Then. trance is induced and an emotional affect bridge is developed using key material acquired in the intake.

Then. the regression which often triggers an emotional catharsis during which the therapist can reeducate the subconscious mind during and after the abreaction.

Next, a series of processes are used including changing self-image, discovering forgiveness for self and others (to discharge accumulated shame and guilt.)

The primary factors in therapeutic transformation are the clients readiness for change and the ability of the therapist to create a healing environment and relationship.

This is just a brief overview and not a universal formula.

Ericksons Utilisation approach

Posted on April 17, 2009 at 3:00am 0 Comments

To recap, Erickson's approach emphasises the use of Hypnosis to help clients learn to use their own potential to accomplish therapeutic goals. So he would organise the session around the unique experiences, difficulties and resources of each individual client.

The difference between his approach and classical methods is that the power of the suggestion is derived from…
